I can't believe my son just....

So I've tried the deep scratch removal kit off eBay (cheap alternative ) and it got some of the scratches out , although I couldn't catch them with my finger nail ,, however I didn't do the right motion with sanding and I stepped the glass and had to replace the panel ,, mine was on a new build ,, check out the deep scratch removal kit , it involves different levels of sand paper and cerium oxide ,, if it's a big scratch I'd get 2 or 3 kits cuz the sanding disks wear out kinda fast ,, but at least maybe try the kit before you go tearing down the tank you'll at least light up the scratches ,, and if you do choose this route watch the YouTube videos cuz there is a left to right and then top to bottom sanding pattern you have to stick with ,, good luck

I would keep the current tank until he gets it out of his system. Then upgrade :) Maybe an arse whoopin or two along the way for the win.

That's a pretty smart idea , you'd hate to repair or replace it to have him do it again !! Hopefully it's in a place that's isn't too noticeable and that you could live with

You could rotate the tank so the back is the front. I know it would be a hassle but could be done in an afternoon with someone to help. But I do agree that this is a great excuse to upgrade. Be sure to take pics to remind him later....say when he is a teenager.

Etched his name on the tank. It's a glass tank. Is there a way to fix it? Time for me to upgrade.

Better than your neighbors car door.

Take a deep breath and count to 10. Now use it has an educational lesson for the both of you on what not to do, why, and what not to leave out. Then leave the tank has is until they grow or mature a bit.

My nephew got ahold of my cleaning magnet that I left within his reach. He got it, moved it around, some sand got in it, and it scratched the acrylic. Yeah, he did it but I left the magnet within his reach. Had I been his age chances are high I would have done the same darn thing. Lesson learned, no one got hurt, no one died, and that was the end of the story. Parents talk to child, me, we're all good.

The bit about child proofing the house never ends. It just changes over time has they age....

Is the name scratched in low enough that you can just add some extra/higher trim around the tank stand to hide it?

how old is the son?

A lot of how upset I get is usually directly related to the age of my child at the time.

Now that I think about it, maybe it was his cousin. She stayed with us for a week while her mom was recovering in the hospital.

My 7yo daughter does that too. We've had to resort to punishing her harder if we find out without her telling us vs her telling us first. It's helped some.
