I can't find my goby!!

I introduced a gold head sleeper goby last night and he instantly hid in one of the caves.This morning I woke up and half of the sand in my tank had been cleaned/sifted through but the body is nowhere to be found. I've read that they are jumpers and there is a small opening in the back of the hood but I have looked all over around the tank and I'm pretty sure he didn't jump. There are a few holes and hills in the sand that weren't there before. Is it possible he buried himself? If so, is that normal?

He may very well have dug himself a cave under a rock and could be hiding in it.

fish are pretty good at hiding out in the rock and not being seen. Do you have a dog or cat? If he did go carpet surfing then they might have got him.

He's hiding under the rock on the left ,or the rock on the right...lol ,or he's on the floor.

My guess is that he's hiding under or in the rock pile on the right. It's better not to worry and go searching for him,; he'll come out in his own time.

I do have two cats but they were both in the bedroom with the door closed as far as I remember. I hope he pops up. I guess I can wait and see if more of the sand is turned up tomorrow morning.

At least I only paid $11.99 for him and 2 nassarius but I still hate the idea that he may be dying/dead or in my cats stomach =(

He's probably just hiding like a pro and will come out we he feels safe to do so. If not then your cats got a gourmet meal!
You'd be surprised how good they can hide. I added a yellow tang to my tank and I couldn't find him for a while. Relax and see what happens!

Have you tried feeding the tank to see if it comes out to eat?

Burrowing gobies can disappear into the sand, in a tunnel under the rock, for months at a go. Use a mirror: he may have a front porch now on the backside of your rock. If he's not in the overflow, not in the sump, and not on the carpet, and the cats don't look guilty, he's in there. Don't move rock trying to find him or you can trap him where he can't escape or crush him by accident.
