I constantly look stuff up

I know my tank is too young for a organic dosing regime after all my research the question I can never find an answer for is this. Is vodka/vinegar or a combination of both a granular activated carbon replacement. I don't have any type of chemical filtration currently but wanted to figure out which way to go.

No you are talking about two different things. Activated carbon is filtration media. Vodka/vinegar is a ethanol dosing method to improve bacteria growth. Activated carbon is great for removing some toxins, polishing water, and removing odors. Carbon dosing like Vodka/vinegar promotes better bacteria growth which in turn provides better biological filtration. Those are the quick and dirty basics of it.

Before you get to wrapped up in everything, keep it simple. Many people keep successful reef aquariums with good filtration and a good water change schedule. I know it is tough but spend a year doing the basics. Water changes, water testing and keeping your calcium and alkalinity in line. Once you get that under your belt then maybe try 1 new thing over a period of time. To many people rush to use things they do not understand. Like vodka dosing. when it is not needed to be successful. stability is key. The more you mess with it the worse everything becomes. You will find, dare I say, became more successful with our systems the more we left it alone.

But activated carbon is kinda a no brainer. I don't have a gfo reactor. If someone is familiar with a art sump then where would one place it if I need some water clarity in the future

Just put some carbon in a media bag at the first section of the sump where water will flow through it. Only use it when you have yellowing of water or some adverse event.
