I bought this GSp about 2 months ago. It opened up lovely and started to spread to a nearby rock. Now this pink sponge is growing on it and now the GSP don't come out. What should I do? I like the pink sponge, but i like the GSP also. Is there a way to seperate them?

The pics with the GSP out is where it used to be. Then I decided to see if I could get the polyps out of the Sponge, so I moved it then decided I want more info before i do anything. This is where I am now. Any ideas or info is appreciated.

I would take some stainless scissors and snip off the GSP where the Pink Sponge begins and move it to another place in the tank. Trimming GSP happens all the time in my tank and I think they grow faster after I cut them back. HTH

I actually like how it looks in the first pic. It looks more like it would on a reef, like not everything in it's own designated little area. Besides the purple and the grren together like that looks cool.

Maybe thats just me.

Why do you think the gsp has not opened for about 2-3 days?

Is the sponge killing it?

Taking all its food?

break off the piece of rock with all the gsp on it. (that big chunk to the left of the sponge in the first pic. then you have a big ol' chunk of rock covered in gsp, and a chunk of rock with gsp and sponge. either the sponge or gsp will dominate, and you might lose one or the other, but you will still have that other chunk of rock with the gsp.
it will be cool to see which takes over the second rock with the mix, the sponge or the gsp. maybe they will just keep growing together?

FORGET the GSP,

that sponge is awsome... I used to have some of that, untill I got a Moorish Idol, which quickly ridded me of any species of sponge I had cultivated....

If I knew I could ship it safe I would send you some. It is really cold here lately.

Can I get the polyps out of the sponge?
How do I do this if I can?

I had the same issue with a black sponge and the sponge eventually won out. The GSP hated it growing in the middle of it.

Since the black sponge wasn't attractive as your's is, I tried pulling it out and raging a war to rescue the GSP but was unsuccessful.

I would still say cutting off the sponge area and moving it away from the main GSP would be the best choice or you may enjoy a nice sponge where thr GSP once thrived.

If I cut the GSP with a razor blade where the white line is. Will the GSP to the right of the line grow again?
