I don't know what this is

Do what Bent and Slief said incease the Mg to 2000 with Kent Tech-M and hold it there for at least a week and see what that does. If it is infact byopsis it will begin to die rather quickly. Sometimes it's really hard to ID many types of algae as they have so many different ones of the same group. Best thing you can do is keep Nitrates and Phosphates in check and if it still exists do the Kent Tech-M as stated. You can also do lights out for 3 days but if you have corals they will suffer so keep an eye on them. Another thing that helps is weekly water changes and adding more flow to the sandbed.

My brother had very similar problem. We solved it by complete darkness for couple of days, before we started the lights off healing, we took out as many algea as we could, and the rest got killed by the lights off, so did his leather coral...

I have a huge leather which I'm planning to relocate anyway. I did 3 days lights out, but that was at the beginning of this plague, about a month ago. It didn't do much and I didn't dare do it for longer due to corals.

Well, I'll be doing a complete restart with new LR. The tank will be empty for a few days, filled only with tap water and vinegar. All the equipment will also be washed, rinsed with vinegar and cleaned. There seems to be no other way.
Actually, I'm quite happy to restart. There's some things I'd like to change.

Good luck! If you're keeping your corals, do give them a good dip just in case.

I had similar stuff in my tank that no one could accurately identify. Turned out I had a leaking powerhead that caused small current in the tank. That stresses out zoas and SPS with a few LPS and I had a nice chemical warfare. The stuff I had looked very similar to what the pics show. It's worth checking for stray current.
