I earned some free stuff

Thats a very good point.
with a used setup I don't know what the previous owner did or even had in the system. I am actually getting this handed down (previous owner was dying literally) so no way to find out.
How could I clean the system out really good
run it for maybe a week or two with nothing in it keep changing the water out with a ro/di ?
what are your suggestions.

ok I went to the LFS today he has a very good saltwater setup.
"wet pets" he has a couple sharks even a very expensive lungfish.
however the older guy sicks the young salesclerk on me.
Right off when we talk he states he is into freshwater no saltwater.
He actually told me "buying live sand is a waste it doesn't fomuch anyways.

He also told my magnum 350 was useless and his hang on the back biowheel filter puts put more water than that.

Hate to tell him "he is all wet" Not only did I like refilling my 30 gallon tank with its output but i checked it out and it was chlorine free (mine has activated charcoal addon)
So down the road this little beasty will save me money on stress coat to remove chlorine.

I also framed my tank stand today.
tommorow is sanding and paint and stain

oh that same young guy told me to use CLR on the dirty tank to get all the buildup off it. I am hesitant I have some. anyone else done this.???? it does say on the bottle to use it in coffee pots but you must rinse it 4 times.

ok well I am falling asleep
so nite all

darn was hoping someone knew about clr
I emptied and moved my 10 gallon Freshwater tank to my sons room
this will be his future lizard tank
then I moved my 30 gallon freshwater community tank to my daughters room

now I have a nice spot for my 55 gallon saltwater tank
Guess I could always start a new build thread or find someone elses and tag along hehe

I would not trust the magnum to remove the chlorine. They are filters meant to polish water. I would fill it with carbon for filtration. You really need an ro/di unit. Water quality is a key component in a successful reef tank.

I have not used clr, but a very weak solution of muriatic acid will work. Just be very careful not to get in on you or in your eyes. After rinsing the tank well, I usually leave it out in the sun for a day so the remainder of the muriatic acid can dissipate.
