I got 2 1" juvenile clowns on Christmas eve- (1 misbar perc, and 1 vivid OCY.) The perc nipped at the OCY but I didn't see much damage and was watching the situation, but not overly concerned. 12/30 I did 10 gallon of 36 gallon water change. I heated water, but didn't pay enough attention and DT temp dropped 2 degrees. The next day both fish looked good. New Years day morning both fish looked good. Then with in a matter of hours the vivid who was eating all along went from swimming to laying on sand bed, and then died. I tested water, and reconfirmed with LFS 0 ammonia, 0 nitirites, 1.020 salinity (close to display at LFS), 20 ppm nitrates. After discussion on board concluded a combination of stress water change, young fish, and predation killed my youngster. Saturday 1/02 I got a bigger OCY thinking it would be my female an not get picked on. So far so good the misbar perc submitted to new clown, and was never chased or nipped. This morning before work 1/4 Perc Misbar struggled to swim did not want to leave sand bed. My expectations are not good for when I get him]
9. Please describe the behavior of the fish as best you can. Is it acting reclusive? Is it always up towards the top of the aquarium? Is it avoiding light? How active is the fish?
[Vivid OCY died 1/1/2016 very active good eater until the last few hours. Use to swim into the power head a surf for fun. last hour he wouldn't leave sand bed struggled to swim died.
Misbar Perc- 1/04/16- alive as of this morning wouldn't leave sand bed - expectations is he will be dead when I get home.]
10. Is the fish eating? What?
[thawed frozen reef plankton and pelets. ]
So I am assuming my misbar juvnile 1 inch perc is dead when I get home. My concern is the 2" OCY I added (too soon
to be my female. I am wondering if it is bigger better immune I leave it alone and hope for the best. IS there a dip I should do? I can't QT due to space is there a treatment possible that will not harm my liverock. I am not concerned about a fallow period so if that is what need that is fine.
Lesson in waiting learned. How do I confirm if it is brook or not?
