I feel like crying

I bought a neon green candy cane frag and two zoo frags from a reefer here on RC for a total of $70 shipped. I chose the shipping method (USPS priority...never had any problems with it before) and they were shipped to me. They arrived last Friday after being enroute for three days. Well, as some of you know, the candy cane was DOA except for tiny amounts of flesh...there is now one spot of flesh the size of a pinhead on one of the heads and I'm trying to feed it back into existance. I put the zoos in the tank and they still aren't open. One of the zoos is looking healthy, just closed, but the other one is kind of sloughing off it's outer layer but doesn't have any fungus or anything on it. I can't get pics yet because I'm in Columbia at college (MU) and I won't be coming home until Friday. I just feel terrible because 1) I'm out $70 (a lot for a college student) and 2) I was really looking forward to those corals...I think they are awesome.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is my candy cane for sure a goner? Are my zoos likely dead too?

I'm not looking for a pity party or anything, I just need some advice :(

try a freshwater dip and put the zoos under good current with low light for a few days---they may still recover. sorry about the candycane though

Wait and see is about all you can do. The hardest lessons learned are the ones best remembered: only use overnight delivery - you might get by with 2nd day in the spring or fall, but do you really want to chance it?

That said, keep an eye on the board - people are always fragging off things cheap and you don't have to worry about shipping.

Sometimes Zoas stay closed for a couple of weeks on end when they are not happy so they should be fine, don't know about the CC.

that would be up for debate....

about the zoos, mine sometimes don't open up for a few days. then they will open for a month or 2 and then take another break.

may just be recovering from stress

You oughta come up here sometime Matt! If this gives you any indication of what MU is like, during nice nights (good temps) people will sit on these bleachers outside one of the dining halls and all take hits off of a huge water bong. I myself don't do any of that stuff(drinking, smoking, drugs, etc), but if it's your kind of thing MU's the place to be!

my history teacher said, "never smoke a 3 ft bong on school property"

--you go to the biggest party school in the midwest and you area saint... define ironic

i can do without marajuna thank you.

It's also the only school in MO that has a veterinary college. I got into the preacceptance program for vet school, which means I'm automatically in as soon as I finish undergrad (vet school is harder to get into than med school), so I didn't want to pass up this opportunity.

you just have to make sure the plant is behind the tank, so when the cops show up, its hidden by the tank, and you can say i juat have it for my corals, lol

yeah, the only time I would do priority is when its in state and you know it'll only take 1 day anyways, i.e. if your order was coming from KC...intrastate shipping is ok to go with the cheaper route because its "overnight" anyways...at least with UPS it is...USPS for some reason can't get mail from Fargo to Minot (280 miles) in one day

According to USPS's website though, it was supposed to be 2 days...not three. I guess since I've only shipped zoos before I thought this would be ok :(

A lesson will learnt. I'm in the freight business and know how it works all too well. It sucks to a degree. This is just IMO only not a fact of any kind! But Using USPS to ship anything "live" is just plane out asking for trouble. Will it make it?? Maybe?? Most likely not. On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a big happy 'ol fat 0. Worst, NO one will offer a guarantee on anything that's "LIVE". We only guarantee the time frame. Sorry to here of your lost that's a bummer.
