Just when I thought I had preventd any hitchiking Mantis on my LR, I saw one! It's been two weeks since I put the rock in. I have cleanup crritters arriving today from Dr. Macs.
He seems to be 1.5-2" long in a reddish color. After the first time I saw him if I peered into his hole I could see his eyes peering back at me. Later ,I came back and he had sealed himself in with a piece of shell. This morning I looked and the shell was gone and I didn't see him.
Do these things stay in their hole or do they travel around the tank. Are homemade traps effective? What time of day should I set them up? What is the best thing to bait them with. How long to leave the trap in? Does it need fresh bait after a couple of hours?
Sorry for the many seemingly dumb questions, but I'm new at this Mantis catching game. I found 2 when I got my rock (before it went into the tank). Even if I can't see him is there much chance he is still in that hole? I could take out that piece of rock and get him out. I wish I had done that the first time I saw him but my kids were so excited to see him I let them watch him for a while.
