I got a clam....is this normal?

Uh....I got a clam the other night...when I got home yesterday evening, it looked like this.

Ginnie said that it was open that much at Aquatic Critter when we got it, but I don't remember.

Is this normal? I checked back a little while later and the opening was closed nearly all the way....maybe about 1/8" gap.

Looks gaped a little, but crocea clams do that more than other species. I would not think that was a problem.
P.S. - Crocea clams are also rock dwelling/burrowing clams. They do better in the rockwork than in the sand. Squamosa, Derasa, and Gigas do best in sand.

Yup. Ditto and ditto. Mine gapes, which seems to invite the cleaner wrasse in for a gill 'cleaning'... Sometimes the gaping is less than others. Just keep an eye on it, but I wouldn't worry too much.
