i just got a 125 g. drilled tank 72"x18X22 tall .

The tank, stand and canopy was given to my by a co-worker for free, i believe it was also given to him, don't know where from but i will try to find out if its tempered or not..i prefer not to drill other holes since i have no experience with that..
i currently have a 55 gl. reef tank non drilled, and didn't want to pass this opportunity to upgrade to a bigger tank, since it was "free" but i wanted to have an idea of the expenses and the options of set up.
like i mentioned.. the tank has a hole on the bottom towards the back on each side (1 3/4)...

below is a link of something i found, i really like this setup. the holes are located exactly in the same loc. as the pic.

i also need to find out how to build the corner overflow box(im going to need two), or if the sell it made or in a kit. "???"

if i can do it myself.. do you know what i need to get.. to do that.
and where i can get it.

also i'm going to need some advise in findin the right return pump for this new tank and help with the plumbing..

(Sorry I am long winded, but your post has been on my screen for days and I felt I should give you a good response since I've put it aside and no one else has responded)

Hey Alex congradts on the tank! You have got to be psyched getting ready to set that thing up. Sorry you haven’t had many responses yet to your exciting thread. I think most of us that talk frequently are still settling from Dave's, wds21921, tank tear down. Summers are very slow in the DE forum and the club doesn't usually meet officially. Who would ever think there was other things people could get busy with, but supposedly there is.

The durso overflows would be the way to go since you already have holes in the bottom. Unfortunately I don't think anyone sells the corner overflow boxes, but it shouldn't be too difficult to build.(there are many threads in this forum and others with people who have built them.) I actually hoping to do something like this at the end of the summer.

Your going to want to build them out of acrylic which you could get... at a hardware store(too expensive, limited options), a glass shop(good price, tons of options), or possibly some one from the forum or local reef club with experience. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in the DE forum that has took on this particular challenge, but have heard some talk in the PARC forum about some people that are good at working with acrylic. You might try asking just that question in a thread.

Someone asked about return pump sizes a couple months ago in the thread. Before you decide that you may want to figure out what size sump you are going to use and what sort of reef you are thinking of keeping. How far away will the sump be? Will it be directly under neither or to the side? How full of rock do you think you will keep it? How many fish are you thinking about keeping? Once you answer some of these questions you'll want decide how many gph(gallons per hour) of flow you want(power heads, closed loop, and/or sump pump) and how many times per hour you want to exchange the water between the sump and the display tank(your original question of what size sump pump) and then look at this calculator.

If you really like this stuff and want to dive into it do your research. Look around the web for podcasts/videocasts and other forums.(if you pm me I can send you some links) Read through some of the articles in reef keeping magazine. And if you really want to do it right and have the time to read take a look at some books such as those put out be Julian Sprung and Anthony Calfo.

It is ashamed the reef club isn’t normally meeting in the summer otherwise I would tell you just to come to the meeting and we would work it out together as a group. Ask any questions in the forum though and eventually you’ll get some kind of input. Good luck. Hope to hear more from ya.

Jon
