Here's an update.

Several other LFS people have confirmed that this guy:

is the real father of those kids and the thief:

is the father's cousin or kid's uncle. That means that it's the kids uncle that is making them do all this stuff. And I don't think the father is aware of this although its seems unlikely. The real father seems unlikely to be a shopfliter since he has very expensive tastes and always buys the most expensive fish in my store and pays cash from a big roll of $100 bills. The guy spends at least $300-$500 per visit. (and does the same at other LFS's I've been told) But you never know - sometimes shoplifiting is done not for the money but for the thrill.

In fact, the LFS that I have spoken to recognize these guys as regulars and never suspected them to be shoplifters unitl they say these pics.

Either way, these two regularly frequent all the LFS's in town and I am sure many of you have met them because they have been around for years apparently.

Also, I'm still working on those high quality pics. Everytime I try to copy them, my computer freezes up (no problem copying to a CD though). I'll call ADT tomorrow to get some technical help on how to get those pics out since they seem to take up all my system resources being that they are so big.

Again, if you see these guys at an LFS, tell the staff to call the police - I guarantee the uncle and kids will be concealing stolen goods. I've been going through 3 months worth of survaillance tapes and I have calculated my losses to exceed $3000 all from their weekly visits and its still adding up!

When I hear these kind of stories, I must admit, I get so angry I can't think straight. If it was my store I would react physically the next time he came in...but "ojreef" is correct, DON'T.......have someone else do it

I definitly hope you bust this guy. But don't do anything to him! Call the police, let them handle it. As much fun, and as deserving of a good beating he is, I just don't want to see you or anyone else get sued, or put in jail too.

I read your your post and although I am not from your neck of the woods I am a business owner.
It looks to me you have been marked as a nice guy:
AKA easy target by your local GYPSIES if I were you I would put the picture of him stuffing his pockets on the front door of your store and once he sees your on to him he head for the hills ...or at least someone elses store.
The last thing you want to do is confront him in your store when your alone,because Gypsies are like dogs and travel in packs.

Good luck catching your thief. It looks like your doing a good job so far.
If at all possible. Post a list of stolen goods. Maybe he is selling local, On R.C., EBay, or trying to act as his own retial business..
It's only a matter of time now, he will be caught !!!

Good luck catching this POS.:mad2: It would be nice to think the father doesn't know anything about it, but I highly doubt it. I am truly sad for the kids, what a sad situation to be in. I'm sure their future is bright and heading in the right direction.

Well if they stop coming around then you know they are aware of what is going on.
This is so sad and I'm sorry you have to deal with this. I can't believe people can do such a thing and even get innocent children involved.
There are so many ways that this can be looked at. It could be looked at like the Father of the children didn't know what was going on but how could he not? Maybe he is involved by coming and dropping $300 + money in your store and STILL getting all the stuff that is being stolen from you.
It is a tough situation and I hope they are caught.

You guys would really be surprised if you knew what is really taking place in our society. The company I work for deals with an average of 10,000 shoplifters and 3,000 employees that decided to steal from our company each year, and these are only the ones we caught. The average age of our shoplifters is 13-14 years old but range in age from 7 to 88. Unfortunately this is not an uncommon crime in our society and we are starting to see a trend of acceptance by judges/juries that have become more lenient with offenders. The sad thing about these crimes is not only do we pay for these crimes by losing good businesses that go under because of their losses but we also pay for it by the increased prices retailers must charge to cover their losses. In my 12 year career as an investigator I have learned that only about 10% of these crimes are perpetrated out of necessity and the other 90% are done to support drug habits, thrills, or just because they feel itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s owed to them. Unfortunately, even if this individual is caught, unless he is in the system and has been caught many times before, he will get off very lightly.

Kei, if this individual is caught, either at your store or somewhere else, you need to make sure he is criminally trespassed from your property and that the trespass is stated in the police report, this way if he steps foot on your property he has committed a crime and can be arrested. I think the smartest thing you could have done is make this public, while catching this guy would be great the chances of you or any other stores in the area getting any type of restitution is very slim. By putting his face out there you increase the chances of catching him but more importantly you have ultimately stopped him and therefore stopped the losses (which as a business owner is more important). As with your last issue, if you need my assistance please donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t hesitate to ask.

I'm no where near local but I saw Misfit6669 avatar and sig in another thread, and had to check it out.

I feel sad just on the basis that someone is this low and pathetic. I mean stealing a necessity is still wrong but its a whole different level of scum to go stealing things like aquarium supplies. Then you factor in the whole fact he is using kids. I just can't belive someone is this F%$@&*G pathetic.

Kei I truely feel sorry for the situation you've had to go through, but I feel even more sad about the state of the world we live in today. I avoid the nightly news because of this exact same feeling I get every time I watch. With losers like this teaching this type of things to children there seems to be no chance of recovery in sight. It gets harder everyday to have a positive outlook on life...

Who exactly carries around rolls of $100 bills around all the time? I Think lawyers and doctors are smarter than that! The father must be involved in selling the goods other wise he would not have rolls of $100's. He just buys $300 worth of stuff then makes $400 off of the stuff he snaged, so he gets free fish and makes $100.

Sorry for your loss, and I hope you nail this guy, but like jdallred says, unless he is a repeat offender, he will get off easy. Push for the hardest conviction possible and try to get the other fish stores in town involved with the prosecution.
