I got shocked today

breutus

Don't ask me, I'm wrong.
I reached my hand in the tank today and got a decent little shock  I am not sure where it is coming from though it has to be one of my pumps I checked the heater.

Does any one recommend a ground probe or is that just going to cause current, Being that voltage in itself hurts nothing until it has a ground source.

Also can this be effecting my corals? I am losing a bubble coral for no apparent reason. I got it from Lisa a while back and it was then only on the mend. but it really blossomed in the tank and for a long time now it has been great. All of the sudden in the last week it has started melting away and there is only one little spot left on it?

Any help would be appreciated

the word on the street is that ground probes are no no's unless you have a GFCI outlet (which you should anyways)

I have both

the theory is that the current chooses the path of least resistance, a ground probe usually providing less resistance than your flesh

when you reached your hand in the tank did you touch your light reflectors at all?

on my old setup I used to get shocked if I touched my light reflectors and if I remember right yours are really close and very accessible to touching your forearm

Yeah they are but I wasn't, but they are sitting closer to the water than the last time you saw them I just changed that last week, so I'll take a look and see if that could be the source of the problem thanks for the thought LOL.

And no gfci outlet there I am going to be running a direct breaker for the tank in the next couple of weeks so I fifgured I'll put one in then.

I once had a power head leak. It was kind of scary to stick my hand in the tank for a while.

Every post on the main board that has asked the question ends up being nothing more than a huge argument. IMO, using almost no real knowledge beyond Physics 301, the inhabitants of your tank are safer without it; you are safer with it.

As latazyo said, GFCI. Which reminds me, I need to put one on my new system before I get fried.
