I Hate Charter!!!

oh dude, they had my cable laying in my backyard for 3 months as well.
i finally called them to ask them when they would be back to bury it. they didn't know it was still laying in the yard.
pathetic.

When you finally get "tech support" on the phone, I enjoy their solution to ALL their internet problems.

"Can you unplug your cable modem?"
me-yes
"Turn off your computer"
me-ok
-then after 30-60 seconds
"okay plug in your modem and restart your computer"
me- ok
"is it on"
me-yes, it still doesn't work.
"hmm, let me transfer you"
-oopps the call gets mysteriously dropped

As some of you may recall I have been haveing issues with Charter since last winter. My internet can not hold signal. I loss it all the time. I spent the entire month of June back and forth with Charter, on the phone at least 3 hours a day. Back and forth, They send someone out, they say my signal is weak, they need to send someone else out the boost it. Then they turn off my tv before they leave, for no reason at all. Then it takes over a week to get them back out the turn my tv back on. Then it get good. In June they apoligize for every thing, and tell my they will be giving me and credit of $25. dollars on July's bill. I also have autopay, So in July I call them to make sure they are going to give my the credit. They say sure, sure, We have it right here. We are only going to take out 69. dollars on the 8th of July. Well that is the same time car payment, car insurance and rent are due, so it is a very tight time for me. But I should have just enough to cover every thing. Well Charter doesn't take out only 69. they take out 95 dollars and bounce all my other payment all the hell. When I call them, they first try telling me that they can not change the amount of autopay. I will alway take out 95.00. After argueing with them for well over two hours. They tell my that in Aug they will credit me with the 25 dollars, Well Aug not to my surprise they tank out 95.again. I call them go back and forth, In Sep my bill will be credited with the 25.00. I get the bill for Sept. guess what the bill is $114. now. I call them to see where my credit is. And why it went up 20 buck., Charter informs me, I did get my credit, that is why my bill is only $114. and not 140. What the hell, All I have is reg internet. and cable tv. not High Def, Not every movie channel. Just TV and internet. But Charter did send me a very nice card in the mail, Telling me they valued my patronage. and I got a coupon for a free movie for the movie channel. I don't even have movie channels. What a load of Crap. I would drop Charter in a heart beat, but I live in apartments and the land lord doesn't want a bunch of satilite dishes.
Sorry now I vented!!!

OMG, that takes the cake, pewter_jean. I recently talked to a neighbor who said he uses autopay for all his bills EXCEPT Charter. I think I'm going to cancel my autopay and just get an old-fashioned paper bill & write a check. They cannot even be trusted to perform simple, everyday business transactions in a professional manner.

I can't believe that cable companies still insist that resetting the modem is the cure all for problems

I also read in the paper about the towns on the east side getting involved and the contact the mayor of your town. Basically it was all the towns in Madison County. But when I went to the Highland Mayor's office, They didn't have a Clue what I was talking about.
Another good conversation"

you going to ask me what I am calling about.
Charter - Well there is no need to get huffy mam, I just need to
make sure your are who you say you are, Now what is
your name again.
Me - RENA HAHN!!!
Charter - And can you verify your address with zip code for me.
Me - Aren't you paying attention, Your already asked me, I
already answered. All of your questions, Now when is
someone comeing back over and turning my cable back on.
Charter - Well how can I schedule someone to turn on your cable?
I don't even know who you are. Now can you tell me your
Name, and address.

If I added up all the minutes I had used on my cell phone calling Charter, in June, July and August it would not suprise me if it added up to over 2000 minutes. And I am not at all joking. Everyday, for weeks, sometimes I would be stuck on that darn phone for over two hours, going back and forth with them. Then misteriously the call is dropped. And then I would call back, and have to start all over, cuz now I am talking to someone in Az, instead of Ohio.

I'm not touching this thread w/ a 10ft. pole....

That would appear to be the main problem with Charter, no one there will take responsibility or be accountable for the lack of customer service. It would take a major restructuring from the top down in order to make a significant change.

What will inevitably happen is there will be competition one day in the not too distant future, then people will leave charter in droves. When they are bankrupt and scratching their heads, it will be too late. Why? They didn't care about their customer base and outsourced a lot of their support to a foreign country that isn't capable of support. They only cared about the bottom line of money, not what it takes to keep a customer base happy...that is always service.

Meanwhile, their monoply will go on and I patiently await the day the competition drives into town.

Amen big brother!!! I will roll out the carpet myself! Do you think they would enjoy some fresh rose petal at thier feet

Option 1

Option 2

My preference is Option 1 but I've had both. I've also had cable. That's why I now have Option 1.

How's their customer service? I don't know - I've never needed to use it.

the problem isnt with TV, dish is sweet, but there are no other options for internet...DSL is way 1999, cable is the only route for internet, and cable knows that, so they offer irresistable bundles

I talked to Dish a little while back and while they had a decent little deal going for a two TV hookup, when I added my third TV to the mix, well, then chi-ching, we were up over what I was paying for cable.

And I might be a little behind the times, but I always remember satellite people complaining about reception in bad weather, etc. Is that a thing of the past or is it still relevant?
