I'm a very happy camper right now. I went to Eco Reef Aquarium on Monday and picked up a foxface in desperation. I have been fighting bryopsis for about 6 months now. I've picked it out by hand, purchased a green sea hare (which perished), turbo snails, etc. to try to eradicate it to no avail. I had been reluctant to try a foxface, as they tend to be a bit large for my tank (especially when I was still in the 15).
So, I brought home this one Monday and he was the most melodramatic fish I've ever seen. I went to float the bag on the surface of the tank water and he was banging around in the bag like crazy. Then after I finished acclimating him, I gently dropped him out of the bag into the water...while he's still trying to bounce around the bag. He went to the right rear of the tank looking like he was breathing heavy and about to die. I thought "great...bring home a fish, just to sentence it to death." He was in that corner all spotted up and looked like that until late the next day when he found a crevice to hide in. The follwing day (yesterday), he came out to eat spectrum pellets and picked up some from the sandbed. After feeding last nite, I did my usual picking routine with the bryopsis, as I 've heard that sometimes the critters won't eat it unless it's short. Then I get home today to find my new piece of chalice (one that's near death that may or may not come back) on the sandbed. I put it back in it's slot on one of my rocks. It wasn't until I went back a few minutes later that I though the tank looked "lighter" than it did yesterday. Then it dawns on me that there's no green sh*t all over the to rock...awesome! He must have eaten it during the day today.
So, I figure I'll keep him in my tank a couple more weeks or so, then try to trap him and see if someone else needs him for his bryopsis appetite. Chris, maybe? I did see that nasty stuff in your tank the other nite...and this one does eat it...at least the kind I have! I have definite proof. Maybe I'll rent him out...let's see "Rent-A-Foxface...for all your Bryopsis problems."
