I was one of the lucky winners of a couple of pretty large reidi ponies this weekend during the raffle at macna here in houston. i placed them in the tank and they seemed to take to the tank pretty well. i actually even feed the tank and saw one of them eating pretty heavily. the other however i didn't see eat at all.

one is white with black dots and that is the one that didn't eat (or atleast i didn't see) but was very very active in swimming around the tank.

the other is yellow and did eat but didn't move around the tank very much at all.

here is my question.

the white one that didn't eat at all but was moving around alot last night has now seems very "quite" and doesn't seem as happy or active like last night. is there something that i should be worried about?

the next question is the yellow that did eat now seems to move around much much more than last night but instead of being yellow has now changed some of it's color to more of a white. the head is still yellow but i quarter of the body is yellow and the other part is now white. should i be worried about that?

i'm really scarrrrrrred and don't want them to die. please can someone help me with some of their oppinions or suggestions.

Seahorses naturally change color, and if he's eating and acting normally I wouldn't worry about it.

Keep an eye on the white one...not eating for a day or two from stress isn't that abnormal. What kind of tank/tankmates do they have? Are you feeding frozen? I'd pick up a few ghost shrimp just in case the white one doesn't start feeding, you can try those and see if it's just being picky.

Before your questions can be correctly answered, we would need more info re: your tank and tankmates. How big is the tank the reidi are in, is it completely cycled, what are the corals and tankmates with them? Lighting, decorations, hitches and flow can also make a big difference.

dort is correct - seahorses can and do change color at will, and not eating for a day or two due to stress is normal. Are these horses trained to frozen? Many reidi are not. You definitely need to get some live ghost shrimp (small enough for them to snick) right away. Large, adult reidi can eat up to 6-8 each, per day.

The color change I wouldn't worry too much about, the not eating would bother me more.

well i have terrible news. the seahorses were doing great eventhough i posted this thread (i was nervous) and didn't know so i thought i would ask. i came home last night at around 1:30am from a very late dinner and drinks to a home that had no lights or air. that lasted until 11am this morning. well i guess the power went out sometime yesterday and i didn't know it. when i came home the ponies were leaned up against some rocks (not tail wrapped) they were just being supported by the rock. i immediately got a aerator and got both the horses and placed them into a qt tank and then added the aerator but it didn't help. they just laid there and when the morning came around they were died. i've only had them for a few days but i am freakin mad....and that is an understatement. seahorses just seem to have much much more personality than fish...i don't know i'm just ****ed.
