I found a pending HUGE mess while mucking around in my sump under my 40br. I noticed the hose running to the PVC pipe for my return was barely hanging onto the pump's nipple. I guess a clamp there was overlooked in the install. I was messing with the tank side of the return line and all but jostled it loose. Mess averted!

So, that save led to the newest mess. I've been wanting to pull the 20 standard sump out and put in a 20 long for better working space. I had to rework the pipe for the return, so why not make a sump too? I pulled the 20g I used on the top shelf and put a couple of baffles in it. It's crazy simple, with just 2, but functional. I have one for the skimmer and drain/filter sock, a center for the return and the left for the fuge. There is a little pass-through between the return and fuge for water/critter passage. I built it all right in front of the tank and Jennifer never made a peep aside from "The vacuum is over there" and "wow, that looks easier to work in." This is one of the smaller messes I've made inside and she always just laughs as long as I clean it up. I consider myself lucky to say the least!

Pics of the mess now that the sump is in and running:

I couldn't imagine trying to be in this hobby without a patient wife! ...but I think she secretly enjoys it. Every time I ask if I can spend money on the tank she simply replies "Ok, but how many massages can I get if you get 'Item X'?" lol

What happened to the frag tank?

Brandon....watch Groupon and Sieze the Deal......I'm no dummy....I buy the maximum ammount you can purchase of Massages when they post those deals!!!!!!

It is the old frag tank. It turned from frag tank to cryptic fuge to sump over time. The frag tank worked but I didn't have enough room for the light and my hands and flow was a little slow through the tank. Detritus build up looked like it was going to pose a future problem. I nixed it before I killed stuff. The cryptic fuge was working great but the bulkhead leaked and got into an extension cord. I decided that it wasn't worth the risk with the very limited room I had to work in the stand. It was too difficult reaching problems back there with all that glass in the stand. I also like having that top shelf for storage. I can cram more crap in the stand so I have to walk less! haha.

Jennifer does like the tank. If she doesn't she does a good job acting like she's interested! She's a bio major/geek too, so she likes to watch things grow and work together in our little glass box.
