I have a problem.

This is the 3rd day in a row that I have come home and my overflow tube is full of air and my sump is waterless and return pump and skimmer are working away with no water. After taking the air out of the overflow tube it works fine all night and morning. When I get back from work its the same thing. Any clue as to what is happening? I've had this set up the way it is now for over 2 years and never had a problem and now its going haywire.

Its a hang on. I fill my sump to a level so that if this ever happens it would not overflow. If I were to bump the tank, water would spill over. Its to the brim. I wish I knew more when I got into the hobby, I would have never bought the tank with out it being RR. The next one....

The only thing comes to mind is your overflow box and hose needs a good cleaning. You may have a bunch of calcium deposits in your hose restricting the flow.

Do you have an aqualifter on it. I have one on mine and this happend, the aqualifter broke, and so the siphon would break because of it.

I noticed when I was using the U tubes that bubbles would gradually accumulate in the tube until it lost it's siphon. It usually took it's time to do it and I hated the U tubes for that reason. You can use an Aqua lifter to prevent that. Check for cracks in the tube also that may suck in air. If you've moved them recently they could have cracked.

I'd tend to agree with the above, it's most likely the U tube make sure it's clean or replace it altogether
