I just got a ORA Maxima clam

Can I place it anywhere I want? or they prefer to be directly on the sand bed? I have 250W MH x3 and I was thinking placing it on the LR! The clam is about 1.5"-2". Any sugestions are appreciated....Thanks

i would try a few spots and see how it reacts, i generally keep mine on the sand, but many people keep them in the rockwork, what i WOULDNT do is place it directly under your halide, let it acclimate a bit before playing around with it too much.

also, ask whoever you bought it from how they had it and what kind of lighting it was under. that way you can replicate it a bit better

Maximas are one of the 2 boring clams and are always found on rockwork in the wild. Because of this, I always place mine on rocks.

Since I am a newbie, I have one more important question. I noticed that on the bottom of the clam there is a piece of flesh thread hanging that does not look right to me! The clam is opening up and looks good but I am not sure what is that piece of flesh hanging? Is that what's left of the "foot"? Please educate me on what to look for a healthy clam. The LFS had this clam under VHO for about one and a half weeks before I bought it.

You're probably seeing byssal threads. They are used my the clam to hold itslef in place. It's not a problem, but don't just hank on the clam once it's attached to something, you'll have to cut the threads as far as possible from the clam itself.
