i knew that i had a predator in my tank..... freakin manitis shrimp (i think i splet that wrong) i found him while looking at my torch coral. he was staring at me and then showed himself completely. well, i removed the rock, but how do i get him to come out of the rock?

i got him out, he has pretty colors pink and teal. what i did was bang the rock around a lil and poof he appeared. he is work with me right now awaiting a trip to the lfs, they take them cause they get people that set up tanks for them.

he has pretty colors.... seeeeeeee lol

Wow he is lovely! Someone would buy him in a heartbeat.

Glad you found him and he is out. How did you flush him out of the rock?

Great catch! I'm unsure on the species, but great colors. How large is it? I'm a mantis supporter, do make sure it gets an appropriate sized home, he looks somewhat large and will require sufficent space for molting and long term health. If it is as big as it looks (2-3 inches)? a 5.5 gallon isn't sufficent.

well, i lightly banged the rock around the sink. i just found out i'm pregnant so i did'nt wanna get bit. i took him to the lfs and traded him in for some coral. while i was there, someone bought him. it was funny how i spotted him though. i was looking at my torch and had the wierd feeling that something was staring at me. so i looked around the rocks and he started to defend himself, so i removed the rock, now i can't get back my aquascape correctly.... =(

So how much damage did this guy do? I kept a mantis like yours for a while, and it wouldn't touch live fish unless it was starving. It went crazy over live snails, though.

i lost alot of hermits and snails over him, not knowing why. i think i lost my firefish recently to him, i had two and their cave just happened to be in the same rock. after the one past, the other one found a new cave, go figure. hopefully he is the only one, cause i really don't wanna deal with them again. i always thought that my pistol shrimp was making the popping noise, but then the guy at the lfs told me that they sound completely different and low and behold it was the mantis.
