I liked it when what was mine was mine and what is yours is yours

I have a 125 RR I want to get up and running however, I need a 72" MH/PC Combo light and a pump.

Problem? When I got married my paycheck no longer was just mine anymore .... everything is ours! Which really stinks when it comes to my wonderful addiction! LOL My husband doesn't share my passion and told me today I am not spending another dime until I sell my current 75 gallon setup. Then, I can buy the new lights and pump I need.

Hmmmm ~ If I sell my current tank, what would I do with all my corals, fish and inverts from the time someone purchased the setup, until I have the 125 running? I would need enough time to order the lights and pump. I also assume the tank would need additional cycling time because I would be increasing by an addtional 105 gallons of water (between the 55 gal sump the tank).

This is definately NOT a situation where.... "Oh, I've had these shoes forever" would work.

Am I totally SOL? Any creative thinkers with suggestions?

I have searched and searched for used equipment and I have either been a day late or a dollar short. As of today I am a lot of dollars short. LOL

I would get the new system and then sell the old... my hubby is about like yours, not much into it. Probalby a good thing, it saves us money... and luckily his hobby does not cost anything ;)

I am not usre what size pump you need, but as for lights, why not get the pendants. You can buy one or two at first, they are about $250 each somewhere around there. put your corals under that one light until you can buy another.

Some people have stored theri LS in rubbermaid tubs, but that can be a hassle

Suggest this: that you deposit your pay into your separate accounts, then transfer a set amount each per month into the "Household Account." Most of it, if need be. What remains in each "personal" account is mad money, and neither should criticize the other so long as the monthly transfer of funds into the Household Account happens on schedule. And no whining about "I need more..." either of you. ;)

That's exactly what my husband and I do. We've never argued about money.

Well, you have many friends in SWAM. I'd be willing to baby sit whatever I had room in the tank for, but that is always a bit scary. (What happens if it starts to go downhill? Yikes!)

I'd frag as many of the bigger pieces as I could, were I you, and sell them to get some extra store credit/money towars the new equipment. Might help you with the hubby also, if he sees money come from the tank.

:D

One thing I thought of is what about 'selling' your 75g and whatever equipment you want to part with and asking the person to wait till your new setup is up and running and CYCLED! DON'T count on using some old water and sand, etc to not need cycling, I learned that the hard way! But....... don't tell hubby some of us have lost 100s of dollars to mistakes like that. I suggest you go by 'need to know' basis with a hubby who isn't 'hooked' yet. Good luck and let us know if there is anything we can do to help you. Sue

You guys are great! I think he is having a change of heart; tonight he asked me what I needed for the tank. :)

What is your current 75g set up? Is it reef ready? I have a 75 stand that is begging for a tank...I am not interested in RR setup though... what do you have to offer? LMK and maybe we can work something out...

BTW I sent you a few PMs, one concerning your SWAM membership
Denise

Hi Denise,
The 75 isn't RR. I will send you a PM with the specs.

I thought I replied to your PM's ~ I will check and make sure. :)
