Water changes are soooo annoying for my setup. i have a basement sink where i have my rodi but it's 3 sets of stairs in 5 gallon bucket at at time. any suggestions how to make this work better??:

Do you have other water sources like a kitchen sink or washer dryer on another floor? The simplest and least expensive solution is to hook up the ro/di under a sink or in the laundry room if those are on the same floor or one floor closer. Other than that you would need to set up a pump system for an ATO.

How far it is in feet?

I use 50' of clear tubing and a pump to pump the water from my water makeup barrel to my 180 gallon tank.

you can run the water tubing for your rodi unit to just about anywhere in your house. it is the exact same as the stuff you would use to hook up a water line to your refrigerator. very few houses come with a water supply behind where the fridge goes. a few very inconspicuous holes and some tubing from your local home improvement store and you can have the rodi unit wherever you want.

Yes i agree, but do not plumb the RO/DI unit directly into your tank, it is best to plumb a holding barrel "30 gallons or so" into your tank and thats it!!, for easy changes etc. i used flex tubing to drain and to fill the holding barrel for my water changes. I plumbed my RO/DI unit under my sink

how big is your tank? i have a bare bones r.o unit from kent thats very portable, i have tanks all over my house so i just hook it up to the closest sink and grab my 40 gal drum and let it fill up beside the tank, and BOOM! i got 40 gals of r/o water!
