Hello all, i was looking for a camera between $300-$400 and didn't know if anyone had any suggestions. i'm looking for a camera with decent macro shooting, possibly hd video, and just a decent all around camera as it will be used for everyday shots :D

thanks in advance

I can recommend you a camera but if your looking for something to take macro shots with its more about the lens than the body itself. If you looking for a solid all around camera that will take hd videos as well. The Nikon d90 would probably be my choice. its more than 400 but id say a better investment. It has an hd video setting and can adapt to a wide rage of lens. It has a built lens gear I guess u could say that will focus lenses without an internal motor. correct me if im wrong. If you looking for a macro lens. I currently use the nikkor 105mm vr lens. it was a tough choice between that and the 60mm. the only real difference between the 2 is how far away you can be from the subject. some people prefer the 105 cause they feel its easier to take pictures of things naturally without spoking them. with the 60mm you will need to be closer and depending on what you are taking a picture. fish specifically. You might scare them. Also, the more distance between u and the subject leave more room for clutter.

Go to dpreview.com and there is a link where you can enter what features you want and you should be able to come up with something that suits your needs as well as your price point.

Given your budget, you might consider a Nikon P100:

I got one recently for "quick shots" when I don't want to lug my D300 around. It works pretty well, and has a decent macro mode, plus it takes video. Just a couple of complaints - you have to remember to take the lens cover off before turning the camera on, and the image review time can't be adjusted - so it pops up your last picture for about 4 seconds, then it clears the screen. I need more than 4 seconds to see if an image is any good.

If you are looking for a good camera, one that is coming down in price right now is the CanonT1i. (In Canada anyways It is $600). It takes full HD video, has a built in flash. Several pre ops for taking photos. There are many lense options for this camera.
One very popular lense is the 100mm f2.8 usm which can be found for $600-$900 new, or $300-400 used.

Professional macro lenses are rather expensive, but you can cheat a little bit with the screw on 10x or so macro extensions which work like a magnifying lense on stock or zoom lenses, may be a temporary cheap option for a macro lense.

You could also go with the older Canon dslr camera in the 10 - 12mp range, but I don't believe they have the full HD option for video.

I would recommend buying the Canon 100mm macro lens (used around $400) and then finding the absolute cheapest used Canon body you can find such as a 20D.

i actually found a very lightly used sony nex-3. looks like a winner, just waiting for him to call me back. it has the 16mm and the 18-55mm
