I need a longer usb cable...

I have a 30ft run to my eb4. It is placed in my garage to gain control of my mixing station. Problem is I can't find any usb cables long enough that aren't repeaters, which I heard can NOT be used.

Can someone point me to what I need? Or to someone who can make one? I did find an online company who sells 50' 75' and 100' "Apex Ready" cables but I don't wanna spend $60 on a 50' cable just to coil 20'+ back up, just seems like a waste of money.

Any ideas? Or known cables of length?

At 30' that leaves me with about a foot or two to play with...

You could try wireless USB, but it's not cheap... and it's wireless, which has its own pitfalls.

Edit: you could also try a USB to ethernet adapter. 30 foot ethernet runs are nothing.

This is your best bet. I use one of their 50' cables and they are decent quality. You will also find that the price is pretty good for a long USB A-Male to USB A-Male cable.

If not, you could use a USB A Male to USB A female cable also known as a USB extension cable. That however is not ideal. Wireless USB as mentioned above will not work as the Apex doesn't use powered USB like a computer does and the wireless ones would act as powered repeaters and could damage your apex.

One other alternative would be to call Cables To Go and see if they have smaller sizes in the 30' range or continue searching. The cable you are after is a USB A male to USB A Male cable.

According to the spec it says Type A Male to Type A male.. As such, it should be fine.

Checkout Monoprice.com They have 15' male to male and male to female cables without repeaters. I think the 15' is list $4. You just connect them end to end and electrical tape the joints to keep the cable together and the crap and moisture out.

I have run these up to 100' without any issue.

I cut a short cable and spliced a piece of cat 5 in the middle. My runs is 40ft. It has worked fine for over 2 years.

I ended up ordering the above cable to a custom length of 27'. This cable works with no issues. Also having them make an Rj9 cable for my temp probe to use at the same location as my eb4(mixing station). I have a spare spot on my pm1 that's running an ORP probe and I don't use temp calibration, so ill use it instead to run my mixing station heater. Yeah I'll have to run another cable but it'll be better than buying a pm1 just for a temp hookup.

I did the same thing as giovanni did. Find a short USB cable from my misc bucket of cables and cut it in half. Splice in a cat 6 cable to your length needed. I probably have a 60 ft run with no issues and a lot cheaper. I bet you can use phone cable too. You only need a 4 conductor wire.
