I need a Quiet pump

Hey guys I am in the process of building a new tank, it will be a 125g cube (38x38x20h) I am looking a for a return pump, the catch is, that it has to be quiet. I mean super quiet, it will be in my room where I sleep! if anyone out there can help in any way shape or form please do so, if you can compare what you have to offer with say a little giant 4md, because that is pretty much all I have heard, and can use it as a reference for comparison. thanks

what type of rate are you looking for on your circulation. I have used the iwaki pumps and they are quiet and I have also used the pan world pumps and they are quiet. I have the 40 px and it is way quieter than the giant pumps I heard if you move up to the 50 px it get's a little noisier. (premium aquatics)

If you have the space you can run a blueline. Very quiet and not that bad on electricity. I have a Quiet One and its super quiet. Others say they arent. Just decide what GPH you need and go from there.
 
I love Quiet One pumps, I have 3 and they are all quiet run externally and internally. Some have had problems with them, but what man made product doesnt have its issues sometimes.
They arent real expensive, and do a hell of a job.

I forgot heat is also an issue a big issue as I am in Miami, and will not be running a chiller, and will be using MH and VHO's, I am aware of the quite one pumps, but they are only quite when you stay in the 6000 model and below the larger ones I have heard and are pretty noisy. also when you run them external they are not as quite. (I have a 4000 on my current tank) and as far as how much flow I was looking for something compatible to the little giant 4MDQX but (about 1300-1400gph). as far as the iwakis and the pan worlds would you say those are the quietest pumps on the market as far as inline external pumps? also are they reliable, do they emit a lot of heat? and where is the cheapest place to buy them?
 
For the 1300-1400 GPH hour range the Quiet One 6000 will do 1506. Or is the 1300-1400 GPH what you want after head loss.
My quiet one pumps run cool, I am not familiar with any other pumps since the Quiet One pumps arethe only ones I use.
 
A lot of people like the sequence pumps but I have no experience with them.

If heat wasn't an issues I'd day velocity T4. If your flow was lower I'd Eheim. I suppose Ocean Runner is a possibility, but in this instance I personally would very strongly recommend the Aqua Sea 2100.

It's not the cheapest but I think it's the best. Just be sure NOT to get the one intended for freshwater ponds... the Aqua Sea line comes with "the best marine seals, grounded electrical cords, split nut pump union fittings, and are backed by a one year warranty plus a nine year factory service guarantee."

Too much display->sump flow and a desire for a quiet system are a tough combo. There is no need for that much display-> sump flow. I'd cut that WAY back and put the flow where it is needed. In the display.
 
Hey I'm all for a closed loop, I still need help deciding what pump to get, I can simply us my quiet one 4000 for the display and use the big pump for a closed loop.
still open for suggestions
 
Another question, will i use a pressure pump for a closed loop or a regular pump for circulation? i am considering the iwakis, is there a major difference between the american and the jap motors?

For what it's worth I run about 600GPH on the return, and 1000 GPH with my pressure rated PCX-40 on a 2 port closed loop with Eductors. I don't love it, it's just what I have on hand.

As an earlier poster stated it's easy to get a very quite return pump if your fexible on the flow, and yes Eheim pumps are and have been famous for their reliability and low noise. The only thing I can assure you is almost silent is the Velocity line, but they *will* add heat:

I've heard japanese iwakis built a very good reputation over the years. I find there larger pumps quite loud but have very little experience with them, from a stats perspective I think there are better options now. This is particuarlly true because a pressure pump may not be necessary for the setup you've described (pressure seem to equal more noise).

Any pump recomendations are related to what your going to keep in the tank. Without knowing I'd say look into a Sequence Dart or Aqua Sea 2700, 3000, 3600 pumps for a closed loop. People seem to like those, particualrly the Darts.
 
The Quiet One are quiet and work well but thety have a flaw.

When the pump goes off it doesn't restart by itself every time, so if you need this pump for a sump I would choose another pump.

I have had 4 or 5 and they all did the same thing, but they are very quiet.
