I need a Quiet pump

I had a tank in my bedroom once - literally like 2 feet from my head, so noise was a concern for me too.

Here's my take on this: a lot of pumps are hit and miss for noise. Some people say Iwakis are quiet, and a LOT of people say they are noisy.

Personally, I got a Queit One 4000 HH, and found it was the absolute noisiest piece of junk on the planet. A lot of people say they are dead quiet, but mine was not. (Not even close.)

People have said Eheims are quiet. I just got one (a 1060 - 600gph) and it still had a distinct hum when I plugged it in. Not super-loud, maybe a little quieter than a Mag 7. Maybe it just needed to settle in - I only tried it in a bucket of water for maybe 10 seconds.

Here's my vote: get a Velocity pump. I have never heard anyone say they are loud. I got got one, and yes, they are completely silent. (I had the T4.) I have not really heard otherwise, so for me, consistency wins out over hit-or-miss pumps in terms of noise. You can also add a small fan blowing on the pump it self - that seemed to help control temps for me.

Otherwise, I have not used a Sequence, but I hear they are pretty quiet too. Can't vouch for them though.

Yeah i'm pretty sure that the velocity is the quites pump out there, i also have access to the old external quiet one pumps, it is the same as the velocity, they are water cooled. i'm just really worried about the heat i wonder how much heat a t4 would add to my tank? even with a fan. i'm just avoiding having to buy a chiller, that and the chiller makes noise too, so i'm between a rock and a hard place. i will look into the velocity pumps, maybe even contact the manufacture, and see what they have to say.
thanks though.

I had my T4 on a 60g cube, and with a fan, I was able to keep my temps at or below 83F. It usually hovered right at 82 day and night. But then again, I also had a 400w MH in an almost completely enclosed canopy. It all depends on your setup - I'm sure if you add enough fans - maybe one in the sump too - you could get away without a chiller.

Look on the bright side - you won't even need to use a heater. :) (I'm serious too - for me, its just one more thing that can go wrong...)

lol i guess, it is a bright side, but my house gets very cold at night so the heater is not optional. are you familiar with the panworld pumps? are they really quieter and run cooler than the iwakis?

My tank was in the basement, with the stand sitting right on the concrete floor. (Yes, my bedroom had a bare concrete floor - after a few aquarium 'mishaps' ) And my dad was too cheap to buy a new furnace after we added onto our house, so our current one was WAY underpowered - so yeah, I know what you mean about cold nights. But you'd be surpirsed how slowly some tanks shed heat - especially if its gonna be acrliyc.

But anyway, no, I've never used panworld/blueline or iwaki. I have heard the PW ones are slighly better, but I wouldn't trust a big pressure rated pump to be all that quiet regardless. If even one person says they're loud, (which they have), then Murphy's law dictates that I too will get a loud one. :p

I'm looking into Gorman Rupp Industires pumps though, they look pretty good. I started a thread about them over here:
