for cooling the canopy, I just need a fan. I want on that wont rust or seize up from salt exposure. but I also dont want to pay 40$ for it...

I can get a great PC fan for 3$, but then I have to do some wiring to get the DC current for it. is there a more direct option?

If you are talking about a small fan, 80mm or so, most are in the $20 at the aquarium supply places. But a google search or ebay will find you some cheapies. I know that DIY Reef has some for about 20 bucks.

yeah, I have a bunch of crappy PC fans laying around, pulled the cheap ones out of my case to use good ones. so I could just use those. not sure if I want a cheap fan though. guess Ill start with it and see how they perform. if their good enough, Ill save 30 bucks.

i gota fan from wall mart for 9 bux it is a small squirl cage fan moves lots of air and is quite cheap platic case made by lasco

Radio Shack has some very nice 120VAC fans that are really quiet. I have used them for canopy cooling fans and I can barley hear them, if at all (sometimes I check to see if they are even running). Not sure about cost, as I bought them several years ago and they are still running strong.

Can any of these fans be mounted to the inside of the canopy? or does there need to be holes cut into the fans?

Don't come whining to us when that cheap $3 fan quits, catches fire, and burns your house down. The word "cheap" scares me when it is associated with things like brain surgeons, parachutes and aquarium stuff. If it fails it can cause a real mess. R

well its not really "cheap" their actually high end fans. but they are not to my PC standards :p. I wanted silent fans for my PC. either way, 10bucks for a clip on fan is sounding pretty good, simplifies mounting anyway.

use the cheap fans, but only inward, if you use to pull air out than they won't last much

rickh, I though 12v fans are going to catch on fire and burn done a house

for a sump or bigger canopy, I found a cheap $10 12v fan at walmart, I always like to use dc fan when expose to water, feel safer

good luck on your search
