I have a 34G solana. Activity is lacking in the tank.

Currently

2 Ocellaris clowns (I swear these guys are the pot heads of the ocean)
1 Lawnmower Blenny
1 Skunk Shrimp

I need some active swimming. Any suggestions? I was going to go with a coral beauty but Im scared it will nip.

As to the "pot heads of the ocean," I'm assuming you have tank bred and raised clowns. Wait until they begin to mature. Then they become pretty territorial. Mine are really aggressive when I have my hands in the tank. They've managed to draw blood on occasion.

I've never tried it, but I was always under the impression a firefish and a royal gramma couldn't get along in a smaller tank.

I like the Two Spot Hog Nose Wrasse sometimes called the Candy Wrasse. Beautiful yellow color with black markings and is a very active swimmer. Has lots of personality and will usually come to the glass when you approach. For a wrasse pretty mild mannored and will get along with most fish. May harrass small dartfish like firefish.

Max size 3.5 "

Yea the clownfish at the moment just host the corner of the tank and pretty much stay there. They just always seem like they have been doing this:headwallblue: a bit to much.

I would love the yellow wrasse, but it is listed as fish only on liveaquaria. I see it only really picks at clams and feather duster type stuff.

Anyone else have experience with them in a mixed reef? \

It also says min 50g?

Are they jumpers?

I like the longnose hawkfish. They like to sit on ledges and look over the tank and they are really nice to look at too.

Hawk's are fun to watch. Also had good luck with my neon dottyback (even with 2 shrimp in the tank). An angel is definitely a good way to add activity to the tank, especially something like a flame angel that is bright colored. As you mentioned, they do come at a risk but my coral beauty has been mostly well behaved for 2-yrs.

And agree with above comments, the clowns will become more active / aggressive / territorial with age once they pair.

A couple of chromis would add some nice movement, and since they school, they would also be different from the normal 'loner' reef fish(except the prerequisite clown pair) and give some extra interest.

McCoskers Flasher Wrasse. ;) I have had one for two days, have been in this hobby since I was twelve, and this is my favorite fish EVER.

Thanks for the replies. I really wanted a dwarf angel and I got lucky at the LFS today.

He was in a 210 so he has downsized but he seems happy so far. The owner was getting ready to travel the US in an RV so sold off his tank. When he was tearing down a maroon clown in the old tank beat him and all his tank mates up. He is bruised and torn fins but is eating algae(bonus!) already. Previous owner swore he didnt pick at corals and this guy is FAT. He is already running this tank. Just him 2 medium clowns and a lawnmower blenny.

Him and the cleaner shrimp are best buds already. Probably trying to get him to clean some of the wounds.

Thanks again.

Aw, poor little fella. I hope he heals up good for ya, he sure is pretty! I see you didn't QT him...you probably should of. It would have been much easier to give him some meds for his wounds.

I have a Coral beauty, lawn mower blenny and peppermint shrimp in a 29g. He is a pretty unique coral beauty as he is deep dark blue and red/orange, he has no lighter purple at all. I've never thought much of them before but he is very pretty and changed my mind.lol
Lawn mower blenny is very active and is always cruising around the glass or rocks picking at algae, very cool fish. He can camouflage very well too.
I've always wanted a flame angel for my 36g corner bow front but I'm afraid it may eat my clam and hard corals, never had one, just think they are beautiful.

Nice. Your coral beauty looks a lot like I think mine will when he recovers. Still seems to be doing great. Helping the blenny take care of my small hair algae problem.

Sometimes I think my blenny had died because he hides so well. When he is out his mannerism are so much fun to watch.
