I was looking at my live rock that I have curing in a twenty gallon long tank to see what kid of life is on them and I saw a bunch of fan worms. I also have to small submersible pumps in there to circulate water and I noticed something bright red in the intake guard of one of them. At first I thought it was a shrimp but I shook it off and it fell onto another rock and wasn't moving so thinking it was dead I took it out of the water to look at it and it had claws. The left one was about 3 times the size of the other one. While I was looking at it it started moving so I put him back in and he crawled under a rock. I did a search for a red lobster and all I could come up with was a spiny red Hawaiian lobster. This is obviously a juvenile and may not be showing the characteristics of an adult yet but it didn't look much like the picture I saw. and with the one claw being so much bigger than the other I was wondering if anyone here knew what kind it might be. As for size I would say that it is anywhere between .5" and 1" very small. Can anyone ID it from this description.

nevermind I think after doing a few more searches that it is a pistol shrimp but that sool it'll save me a few bucks down the road nice hitchhiker!!!

Make sure you identify what kind of pistol shrimp it is. Some of of them have been known to kill other tank mates and others are super peaceful.

I think the carribean ones are notorious killers.
