I need some tank stand plans for a 175 gallon bowfront tank.

I hate the looks of the factory stands they look so cheap.

I would like a rock stand but wood will work.

Thanks in adavance for any sugestions.

Try the search engine early in the morning. You may have some luck there. This is a tough one. To diy this one, you need to have some experience making jigs to glue up panels of thin plywood to form the curves properly. I don't have any plans, but I can visualize the stand and plywood skin not being overly difficult, but the doors would involve some pretty intense jigs (forms) to glue up plywwod panels to, and match the same curve as the stand so they close properly. Unless you have lots of time, space, and access to lots and lots of clamps, I would recommend you keep looking around for a pre-made stand. Just my 2 bits. Best of luck.

That's a really good idea. You could use the very thin pine tongue and groove panelling that HD sells in bundles. As long as pine is your cup of tea. You would still need to make a set of curved braces for the insides fo the doors though, that conform to the tank's curve.

You may want to consider sgementing the front of the stand into 3 pieces. I did not know the dimentions but it would look something like this. This is based on a 72 bow. So for 175 maybe you could use 5 gegments. Orange is stand and black is tank.

Well if this thing is 175 gallons, depending on the width he may be able to get some good sized openings. I just could not find any dimensions for it. I could see how a 46 would be small openings.

(ignore the colored gravel, it was in my son's house for a while, that was his substrate)
this is a stand I built for a 75 out of some logs that I had sawmilled to 6" thickness (flat on 2 sides) I cut out the inside at about 2" of depth to allow the tank to set in and not be able to see the tank trim. I f you have access to logs, it shouldn't be too dificult to cut an inset to the shape of the tank or even better fing a curved log & build from there.

If you're interested in a rock stand, build a steel frame to the size & shape needed, cover it with durock/wonderboard/cement backer board use self tapping screws to attach & then lay up the stone on the cement backer board

Good Luck!
