I need help taking pictures that show off the color of my coral i have some amazing acros and wonderful poccillaporas and stylaphora hydno wonderful polyps and i cant take a decent pic

PLEASE HELP

try this, stay back about 3 feet from tank,do not use flash, all tank lights on and good sunlight in the room.use auto mode or if you have a macro mode use that.for a close up i edit the pic on the pc rather than trying to get a close up without editing.i am no expert but thats how i get decent pics out of a junk camera.

I agree the link above to ximinas site contains some great info. I however am an advocate of using a flash to capture detail in my images of fish. It allows me to take control of the lighting, I tend to use it to overpower the tank lighting and control the background as in this shot

... or I use it to allow for faster shutter speeds to capture that 'emotion' that occurs for a mere millisecond.

It really boils down to parctice ... practice ... and more practice. If you are going to use a flash to image with you might want to diffuse the light a tad, a small piece of kleenex can do the trick, also watch your angles to the opposite glass, very small angles, just enough to keep the light from bouncing right back at ya!
