Please help someone I'm so confused. My husband is deployed and I tried to fix the protein skimmer after noticing it wasn't pulling anything from the water. How long has it been doing this I've been trying to adjust the settings everyday now for about 4 weeks thinking it was too slow or too fast and nothing has seemed to help. I cleaned the unit up. I did this because I've been noticing some red stuff on teh floor of my tank. We have live sand and had a real bad break out of red slime algae around 8-10 months ago when we had a Red emperor snapper in the tank causing it all. He passed and so did the slime algae.

Nitrate/Nitirites 0
Ammonia 0.25 ppm
Alk Normal
ph
8.0
Feeding spriula frozen brine everyday (sometimes 2 cubes)
Invertebrae smorgasboard Mon Wed Fri
I haven't put purple up in the tank for at least 4 weeks although I'm going to start again tonight.
Please help I want my fish healthy and I'm afraid they are going to get sick.

Have you tested for phosphate?

Is this the 30 gallom you're talking about?

How many fish?

yes it is the 30 gallon and i don't think i have a test for phospate two skunk clown and velvet damsel one condi anemone and starfish numerous snails

i suspect your getting the red slime back due to the fact that the skimmer is working improperly and have a rise in phos. i would do a water change or 2 this week, and now we got to figure out what ype of skimmer and getted adjusted right

Being new myself I usually wait for more experienced people to reply but since its been a while....

I've read on a couple of threads not to use purple up. I'm still waiting to search for the posts explaining why since I bought some.

Seems like the experienced people recommend 20 - 30 % water change when things aren't going well and you suspect water quality problems. Sometimes even 50 %.

i would say do five gal change now and again on sat night, i wish i could help more but im unfamiliar with seaclones

I'm not familiar with the food you use bit it sounds way too much for a couple of fish. Are you target feeding the anem?

Two cubes of that spr. brine does sound like too much,I would cut that back.

We're not experienced enough to really help but I sure did notice the ammonia level that is posted isn't good.

Just want to point that out for the experienced folks to not overlook. Only know it should be zero and you may be headed for bigger problems.

Your best bet is to do water changes and I would do 5 gallon every other day until problem is solved. Do not make drastic changes this can only lead to more problems. SeaClone skimmers are not the most user friendly or effective skimmer out there. Doing water changes more often will get you buy until you can get a little better skimmer.
