Guys,

I just bought a used Sea Line SL-500A 1/2 chiller, Its never been used but I dont know how it gets hooked up. The seller said I need a pump for it. There is a water in and water out which is self explanitory but how does this thing work? Do you have to run the pupm 24-7 ? and then if it sences warmer water the cooler turns on? Sometimes I wounder if its a good idea to buy from people other than the sorce.

Thanks Bill

Simple devices. Yes, you have to plumb the chiller inline so that water is always passing through it. Most find it convienent to plumb it inline with the return pump from to sump to the tank. So instead of plumbing the pump from the sump directly back to the tank you just run it into the chiller first then out of the chiller and back to the tank. You should be running a pump that will provide between 400 and 800 GPH through the chiller.

What pump are you using as your return from sump back to tank?

On those chillers The controls are on the chiller themselves if Im not mistaken. So the temperature sensor is built in.
Did you not get a manual to show you how to set them?

You just set the temperature that you want the tank to be maintained at. You usually set a differential which is the number of degress you want to allow the tank temp. to rise before the chiller turns on, and thats about all there is to it. So if you set it at 78 degrees for example, with a 1 degree differential ... the chiller will kick on when the tank reaches 79 degrees and will turn off when it brings the temperature down to 77 degrees. Depends on the controller but it may short cycle with a 1 degree differential so you may be better off setting it for 2 degree differential.

I cant help with exactly how to program that model, I am not familiar with the controller but you should be able to figure it out even without the manual. Or, they may have manuals online on the website. Other than that, Im sure you can get a manual sent to you by the manufacturer by calling them or emailing them.

Does that help?

One more thing ...

If you cant figure out the controller and dont want to wait till monday to contact the manufacturer ...

Post a new thread with the words "Pacific Coast Sealine chiller help" in the title. Im sure some RC members own one of the chillers. If they see the thread, they should be able to help with the programming.
