I need some live rock for a newly established aquarium. I do not want expensive rock, i would like to buy about 100 lbs of it at a resonable price. Im a noob to the hobby so im going sparingly for now. thanks in advance. email me at pcurry18@comcast.net thanks.

Rock is expensive no matter what.. You could do mostly base rock and then seed it with some live rock and then eventually it will all be live rock.. I got some base rock from reefer rocks.com

Well if anyone finds any live rock or base rock under their couch, or in a box in the garage, then im willing to take it off your hands. Let me know! Im hopin to avoid the LFS and buy from the club. I will be patient!

check out the salt water fish store at denios. good and cheap. if i remember right it was 3 or 4 bucks a pound.

KK, im in wheatland and i have never been to a LPS in Sac. Can you give me an idea as to where denios is. Id really appreciate it. I think im gonna do a mixture of different types of live rock, Fiji, Tonga, and something else im not sure. Thanks in advance for the info!

Denios has cheap rock but I had a HUGE amonia spike from their so called "cured rock when I used them. Just be aware... If you are gonna go the lfs route I would highly reccomend Youreef.

regarding denios and the ammonia spike - well, these guys are much smarter than me. i bought the rock, put it in the tank, let it cycle and i was on my way to happy reefing. no doubt it get's more technical.

KMP you rock dude...thanks for the info. Im prolly gonna get about 150# from one of these stores. Ill check em out...thanks

I just went and picked up 50# of live rock from Your Reef. That is some good stuff for only 3.99 a pound. Im looking at my tank, and i seriously dont think another 100# of rock is gonna fit. THey say, 1.5 pound for every gallon. I want some room left to see my fishes, any suggestions. I also have 100# of live sand in there. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

well you can start with what you got to get it cycled and always build out. make sure we get some pictures.

Are you planning to put coral in there or setup a fish only? If you plan on getting corals/anemones/etc. - you typically get a small chunk of rock to go with it, so it might be better to start out with less rock and add to it via acquisitions. I have had to take out rock in my setup recently because of recent trading because I loaded it all up on the front end.

you got a good point, i now have 50# in there and im gonna by some small rocks in order to fill in some gaps then ill wait. How can i post some pics on here?
