I need some advice on skimmer, please.

I have an Octopus skimmer and the middle compartment (the one under the collection cup) is full of water. This is ordinarily where the bubbles form before working their way up into the collection cup. There are no bubbles in that compartment or in the neck of the collection cup. I pulled the whole skimmer out and cleaned the pump with vinegar and cleaned the inside of the skimmer itself, but that didn't improve things a bit. I disturbed the shallow sand bed today. Could that be the cause? Will the skimmer settle down?

Thanks.

Well, I didn't think so, but thinking you were on the right track, I just pulled the pump out and reattached the airline to it. That produced some bubbles, but only if I left the do-hickey off the top of the airline. Do you know the thing I mean? It's some kind of regulator. It's obvious that the pump wasn't getting sufficient air so my clever husband took that regulator apart and found it all gunked up inside. We cleaned it out and now everything is working gang busters. Thank you so much. Spinoleo; you got me started on the resolution.

By the way, I can't believe the spell checker let me get away with "do-hickey".

The silencer on my skimmer (bermuda) plugs up with salt creep often enough. Give it a good washing with some hot water and see what that gets you.
