YES! 5 long days, looking, waiting, worrying, etc. Persistance finally paid off. FINALLY today i trapped the mantis shrimp. I had lost gobie after gobie and finally one day saw this elusive predator that many revere as a nice addition but i just wanted him out.. He is VERY fast and smart.
The X-TERMINATOR got him though baited with silversides.
I put the trap at the bottom in a cave area of the live rock. The plastic trap had to be modifed however as sometimes it was not sensitive enough to trigger. I am SO happy i yelled out. I had a few bottle traps too that caught all my hermit crabs, as they constantly set off the trap at first. My serpent star trapped himself in the x-terminator next.. Had all them out in a bucket with air stone.
Finally.. i can go back to adding some small fish without worry..
Here i made some modifications. Made a small hole in the top and bottom to run a pin through to hold the bait.. he would have to tug and pull making it more likely to trip the door release lever..

Another "modification".. after opening and closing so many times after hermit crabs would trip it, the plastic wore out to where the door would not stay closed. I SUPERglued a staple in place to act as the catch. you can then adjust the sensitivity screw through trial and error to get it right.
