I purchased 2 maximas about 4 to 5 in for 24.99 each :) one is fine but one looks like on the bottom where it comes together. it's not white and fleshy like the other one. it almost looks like there are roots hanging out of him. is thera anything i should do or what? if someone needs a pic i can get one tonight. any help is appreciated.

Post a pic it will help.

Are the opening up and extending their mantle? Does their color look good?

You sure that the Maximas are healthy? 24.99 is a good price for ones that size. If they are healthy, then that is a steal.

Probably a good idea to post what kind of lights they were under at the store and what kind you have in the tank that they are in now.

Good luck.

yeah i guess my LFS got a great deal on them. there colors are great and they are very responsive. They used very very old Mh at probably 18in away. mine is only a 4x55 but I'm in the process of setting up my 90 with 2x250 mh should be up and runnin in 2 mos. the one that is in good condition I put all the way at the top as high as I can get him next to the ligths. as for the one that i'm worried about I put in the substrate. "FOR NOW" i didn't want to stick him up on the rock till I figured out what was wrong. I purchased them 3 hours ago. and I will get a pic as soon as I can. Thank you :)

and i have been reading about that they need MH I know this is just until I get the new tank setup. so please don't yell at me :)

I won't yell at you, but I would see if a friend with MH can hold them until you get the MH. I would hate for them for do unrepairable damage until you get the MH. There is no way to tell if they are healthy or not until they start to die. Best bet is to give them idea conditions from the start.

Good luck.

the white things under him are his "threads" this is what they attach with. yea they need the MH... how long has the tank been set up also?

My tank has been setup for a year and this is the best my tank has ever been. I had him in the substrate and The thing that was hanging has now came off and I moved him up my rock he is doing awesome. and I don't know anyone that has metal halides :( and they are very healthy. i have one about 4 in from the light and the other one is about 6 in from the light that's all I can do for now.

and I think I better wait on the pic. I got home to late and the lights are out. so I don't think it's good to just turn the lights on real quick. for a shot. I'll get one tomorrow. thanks for all the info :)

Why not just borrow one of the 250 watters from the 90 you're setting up and slap it on your current tank?

I think he said he is getting them, so he doesnt have them yet?

yes this is true. I do not have them yet. I have the tank and am getting the lighting for my x-mas present. they seem to be doin really good. not as extended out as with halides. :bum: :bum:
