Well I think I finally got it. A few days ago I transferred a moorish idol from my qt to my dt. He was in the qt for about a moth and I never saw anything well this morning I woke up to see a little white spot on his fore head and my purple tang has a few spots as well. I have a uv light and all Paramus are good. I'm thinking I'd hypo. But I have a shark in the tank and an eel are these guys going to be okay oh and I don't have any inverts.thanks

I took all my fish out and put them in a QT. And the shark is living in a kiddie pool on my kitchen table lol

I'm doing hyposalinity on my fish but I'm going to keep the shark at its normal salinity til right before the new tank is set up then he'll get a 1 min freshwater dip to knock off the crypt (at least that's what zoodiver said to do). I don't think sharks can handle extended time on hyposalinity. Not sure about eels. I also think it does something to your live rock and sand bacteria.

If you can QT the shark at least...obviously most of us don't have 100+ gallon QTs which is why I had to go with the kiddie pool option. Its not super classy but it works and the shark has never been so happy

I have that drs Tim one and only stuff so after the hypo ill be able to use that. I don't have room for a huge qt. I think I'm going to very slowly like over the course of a month and bring the salinity down to 11 ppt specific gravity.

The shark and eel should be fine. They are especially resistant to ich surprisingly enough. It may have something to do with their lack of scales. Stingrays are the same way.

Ike mandarins and sharks don't get it for some reason. I'm going to start hypo tonight. Quick question I went down a I found a few snails and a star fish in my tank I don't know why their in there what should I do with them.

Whatever you want really. You could leave them in the tank or switch to another. As long as they arent hurting anything.

Thanks. Alprazo said he would qt the shark and so and I don't have enough money for that though. I'll stick with the hypo.

No reason to dip the fish, dips don't do anything to help with ich. The white spot you see isn't the actual parasite. Just a heads up; IMO, 4 weeks in a QT isn't long enough. Ich can survive, unseen, longer than that.

I have used trash cans in the past to treat affected fish and sharks. they work quite well and cost very little.

I not a fan of hypo. Especially in sharks for ich when You really can't tell if the shark is infected, That is until you add the shark to fish and notice an outbreak.

Ich life cycle length is depended on the temp of the water In your tank it would be wise to raise your temp to 83-84 if you haven't allready and it will speed up the life cycle of ich therefor killing them off sooner in your DT, anything lower will slow the cycle

That is not good advice. Raising temperature also decreases dissolved oxygen and for fish with infected gills, this will be a problem.

Yes, the last thing a troubled fish is low oxygen. Raising temps was always part of the FW ich battle (it may still be). SW ich is an entirely different critter. Every individual ich parasite doesn't read the published data on their life-cycle timetable. The known life cycle info is an average and many individuals can take much longer to reach a new, free-swimming stage. Raising temps would do nothing to speed-up the treatment process.

i dont know if 1.009 is okay with sharks. i believe i have read they dont do well in very hypo water.

Ok well good thing its only at 1.020 right now and not lower. How should i treat this if hypo isnt an option. I looked more carefully at the fish today and the only white spot i saw was on the forehead of the moorish idol and thats it.

Every thing except the sohal because he had been from diveres den him and the idol were added togther l all the spots are gone now humm.
