I think it's bryopsis

Well poo. I am doing ok with my corals, but I have an outbreak of algae. Now I think it's actually bryopsis. How long is it safe to run my tank without any lights on the DT? I don't want to hurt the corals, but I also want to remove as much as I can by hand and tooth brush then WC followed by some dark time. I am hoping that will help. Am I filling to have hope? Any guidance would be great.

PO4 is now .03
NO3 is 5

I'd get a positive identification before going crazy. Pics?

Photography is not my strong point. So I don't know if you can tell from the pics. After looking at several sources online I have come to the conclusion that I actually have both. I have more bryopsis than GHA. I started the Fluconazole on Friday and I can already see a difference. All of the BRYOPSIS/GHA on the sand bed is nearly dead. The rest of the bryopsis on the rocks is turning white. The GHA on the two rocks still looks the same. Funny thing is, and it's probably a coincidence, the coral looks very happy. My zoas have been closed up for a while and many of them are wide open now. Not saying it's a miracle drug, just documenting my thoughts and observations. Here is a pic from tonight. Next time I will try to snag pics when the MH are on. I cut them back to 3 hours a day a while ago trying to stop the algae.

Looks like the big B to me.
The stuff is insidious. I think the spores can come in on corals, or even on (or through the digestive tract?) of fishes.
Flucanozole has worked well for me. Takes a couple of weeks, but eventually it just kind of melted away.

try to reduce NO3 to the range of 2ppm

Fluconazole is the easiest solution. Remove carbon and dose 20mg per gallon of water for about 15 days (no water changes). Then run carbon and do a water change.

Thank you everyone. I will let you know how it goes. I need to make a new canopy so that I can gain access to my tank. I currently only have a few small doors in the front that I can get it. Makes it very difficult to do much since it's 30" deep.

How do you get Fluconazole? I found an online place in Florida, wasn't sure if there was some place local.

Day 1 and Day 8. Today is day 12 and the is no evidence of bryopsis left. I still have a little GHA but it too is now starting to disappear.

Looks great. Was it easy to use?

It's the easiest thing I have done to the tank. I did a water change. I opened the capsules and mixed them in a cup of tank water. I poured it in. I left the skimmer and gfo reactor off for a few days. No water changes for 14 days. I will do two large water changes this weekend. If I still have GHA I will dose again. I have read that GHA is harder to get rid of and takes a little longer, but today I can tell it is thinning. I have seen ZERO negative effects at this point. I think my corals look happier than they have in a long time. If it was cheaper, I would like to experiment with a maintenance dose of some kind. But I think it's best to just keep up with the water changes better. I almost had a DOS yesterday. I messaged the guy and asked for his PayPal. He replied, I got busy at work and within an hour both of the DOS were gone. I wanted one for a continuous water change.

Sounds super simple.

I use a litermeter3 for my awc. It works flawlessly. There is one for sale locally also.
