I think my new powder blue is a zoo nipper!!!

YOU have been ignored!
So I got a couple new Tangs today. Small ones. A powder blue and a Hippo. So I put the Powder Blue in and I be he wasn't in there a minute and nipped my orange zoo's bigtime!!! Literally not a minute. I've also seen hime looking hard at my other zoo's.

So how many others have had problems with a Powder Blue and them eating zoo's?? I guess its a crapshoot with any fish but are any fish more prone to this sort of thing?

Thanks!
Chris

i've seen this happen at my local fish store, they finally had to take it out of the main display tank.

hate to say it but once they get a taste for a particular coral he'll continue to eat it. :(

Oh man!!! This thing is nipping on EVERYTHING!! I just saw him nipping on xenia, my miyagi tort several times, red millipora etc.. Unbelievable!!!

I've never had a fish do this before. I'm hoping he's just trying to figure out what he can eat and what he can't. I've got Nori in there right now and he's sortof looking at it and he slightly nipped at it. If I notice polyps on corals and zoo's suffering in the least, anything out of charector for them then HE'S the prime suspect and he will be banished from the reef.

This also the first time I've seen the NEW FISH Bully the others.. This is a trip!!! Powder blues known for being aggressive? Maybe i should have read up on these!!!

Whew... I think he discovered and likes the Nori.. After sampling just about everything in the tank he's pretty much focused on the Nori. I hope he doesn't dissapoint me. If I see him munching one more time on any zoo's HE'S OUTA there. Its taken me too long and too much money to collect all of them to have a fish eat them. I'd hate to get rid of him because he's a really nice looking fish.

Usually tangs are reef safe, though like your experiencing this can happen with them. Its the first time i heard of a powder blue going after corals but i heard hippo's doing the same. Hopefully it stops, if not remove him and get another one.

Yes Powder Blues are aggresive they will establish dominance and likly will not let any other fish in the tank that you try to add later.

Both of my tangs nipped on corals when they were still new. My Kole tang ate most of my Xenia heads and picked on my open brain too.
It only lasted about a week and after that they both left all the corals alone. I give them nori 2 or 3 times a day and I haven't had any problems ever since.

I went through 3 blue hippo's that ALL ate my xenia and nipped at my brain. Finally gave up and got a sailfin tank and now the lil SOB is eating my damn clam!!!!

I just cant win:mad2:

Yeah unfortunatley I am away from home m-f so I have to hope that feeding my auto feeder 2x a day will keep them satisfied. I hope it works because if they munch my zoo's I'm gonna have a fish fry!! MMMM Powder Blue sandwich...
