About a month ago I got a pistol shrimp for the 5.5 Nano tank I built that sits on my nightstand. Well, every morning at 5:35 AM (give or take 5 minutes) my pistol shrimp fires off a single shot from his pistol. My alarm goes off at 5:25AM on work days, so Monday through Friday I'm already up. But on the weekends, I'll be lying in bed asleep and hear "CLICK" and look at the clock, and sure enough, 5:35 - give or take. I guess it seems like it would be annoying, but I find it fascinating that his internal clock is so precise. If I could wait until 5:35 AM to get up for work, I could ditch the alarm clock and wait for Pistol Pete to sound off. Here's a pic for ya

I've noticed very similar things with my pistol shrimp not the 535am shootings but everyday in the same hour window he comes out of his hole and does some rearranging of the rocks in his front yard. terrific little guys. do you have yours paired up with a goby? I noticed mine got braver and the times they came out everyday became a lot more consistant once the shrimp and the goby paired back up (they got seperated when I put the pair in the tank)..... the two of them have really become my favs in my tank. I named them goby-one-kanobie (mis-spelt I know but I'm not a starwars fan) and buildier bob :strooper:

What kind of pistol is that?
That's a Randalls pistol shrimp. He's paired up with Bugsy, a black ray goby. I also have another Randalls in aonther tank paired up with "Mugsy", a yasha hase goby. Here's a pic of Bugsy

I have a tiger pistol paired up with a white ray fin goby in a 24g and mine runs like clockwork too, except the lone shot goes off late in the evening, usually around 10:30 or 11. It happens every night, but it still makes me jump when he fires away. I'm still scared one of these nights I'm going to hear the "crack!" and then just see the glass spiderweb out and WHOOSH! have water everywhere.... :)
