For you clam experts out there I have a 90 gallon reef tank that is 24" high. I have 4 110 VHO bulbs (2 super actinics/2 white actinics) Can I keep a clam successfully. I will completely understand if the answer is no however I have been told by a few lfs that yes I can. I am posting this because I want the truth and no better place for the truth than reefcentral.

I think I'd be careful if you keep clams in that tank. Maybe a Derasa or a Squasoma but definately not Crocea or Maxima. And you need to place them right at the top.

I'd go with a deresa clam inparticular. These clams are probably one of the only clams that could do well under non Metal Halide conditions. I've even seen some super colorful ones from time to time. I don't believe that you would need to put a deresa right at the top of the tank thou. I'd say about halfway up would be fine. As with any clam or coral, remember lighting is not everything. You have to have sucessful water conditions as well. Goodluck!
