Yes Bobby, a tank is a tank. If you are going to use an old tank just make sure it is really clean. and it should be good to go.
Most other equipment would work also but just make sure it is also cleaned first.

Bobby: why don't you go to the library and read some of the reef books or buy some cheap ones from LFS. Also, try the nanoreef forum as they have great info for kids.
