Hi I am looking to get a pair of some type of fish in my 65gal reef tank"¦ im deciding between a pair of firefish, clownfish, bangii cardinals or blue green chromis.

if I went with the fire fish I want them to be a mated pair so that they don't start to fight when they get older, and i was wondering if they are not a mated pair but just 2 of them in the same tank can u get them without having problems...

If I decided to go with clown fish I have one problem and that is that I already have one in the tank, so is there any way I can add a 2nd one without them fighting to the death.

If I decided to go with the bangii cardinals I would also want them to be a mated pair so that they don't get into fights later on.

And last but not least, if I decided to go with the blue green chromis I was wondering if they would kill each other since there is only 2, if so then I will probably get one instead. i saw a pair of them in Mr.Saltwatertanks 235gal tank so i was wondering if that is common and do they have to be mated???

Basically I am wondering what would be the safest bet as far as pairs go in the tank. any other pairs of fish that you guys like that are reef safe please let me know!!
THANKS

What else is in the tank? What type of clown do you currently have?

I would suggest checking out liveaquaria's divers den as they often have pairs and trios of many different types of fish that may work out well for your tank.

I like the bangaii myself and have a trio currently in my tank (waiting to see who is the odd one out so I can remove it and hopefully come out with a pair).

i only have a ORA clown and a mckoskers wrasse, i use to have more fish but there was a small die off in the thank :(. like i said it is a ORA percula clown. and ya me too i wish i could get all of them haha

blue/green chromis are schooling fish, best to get like 4 or 6 of those
I have 4 in my tank and they swim together all the time
I also had an ocellaris clownfish all by himself at first, but a few months later I added a smaller one, and they get along famously..

303travism, i was going to do a small school of firefish but since i already had one in the past i will probably pick up a small clown at my LFS, but that was my first choice haha.
Thanks for all the replys

x2 just follow Matt Pedersons article in Reef Keeping Magazine. I now have a self made pair of Flames, it took a while so don't get in a hurry but very rewarding.

Impressive, I bet that looks stunning. I'd try that, OP!

Agree with the schooling of Chromis as well, sometimes you can find them for under $2 each = cheap shoal of fish.
