I want my mushrooms to multiply

I don't think I will be trying out the whole blender idea. I don't see a positive outcome to ever come out of that expeirment. Thanks anyways akrimmel.

Well I experimented with one of my mushrooms. I took a sharp little knife and cut it right down the center. The mushroom shriveled up but looks like it has got better. Now I got two mushrooms in that little rock!:D

You can take the mushroom from the rock with a blade and cut the head like a pizza in 2, 4, 6 or 8 parts.
If water conditions are good, survival rate is 100%.
Even the remains in the rock will give more mushrooms.

I have seen a tank where mushrooms completely took over and the guy had to get like 4 frogspawns to keep down the mushrooms. It was crazy.

can someone please tell me what mushrooms live on? What chem? I am new to reef and I would love to get some to grow. I got a rock with one on it and it has done nothing. (3months) I have a great looking gorgonia and a few healthy feather dusters. I also have had a BTA for about 4 months and it is doing ok, some days very nice others it is not happy. I also have a coral but I have no Idea what it is. I know it is soft and it is on the rock the mushroom came on. It is doing great seems to be growing a little but not like it should. I think my real problem is my Nitrates are always high. I cant seem to keep them down no matter how often I change the water( using RO every time, and IO salt). I have always been told mushrooms are easy to keep. (by high I mean Nitrates show between 40 and 80 ppm on my "saltwater master liquid test kit ) Calcium is high ( 450 last test ) Alk on target, and ph 8.2. I have a 110g long with 4, 96watt PC 2, 10K and 2 Actinic. This should be good enough to grow shrooms right? any help or advise would be great. I really would love to have some shrooms and soft polyps spreading across my tank. Please tell me the easiest to grow and keep. If anyone is selling some I would love a chance to buy some healthy ones.

What kind of filter are you using. Most filters that "help promote biofiltration" are just nitrate factories. I know this is going to get me flamed but a little phosphate in your system can do wonders for mushrooms and xenia. Good luck

I have watched my giant red mushroom multiply by sending out what I would call a trail of snot from his foot. It's as if he sticks out a long foot to another piece of rock sometimes as far as 6 inches away. You can see the string and he shrivels when he does it. After a few days the string gets thin and finally is a completely separate mushroom.

Caribbean umbrella mushrooms drop babies off of their cap. The cap has like serrated edges and the tips of the edges fall off and attach elsewhere to form new shrooms.

I would make sure I knew what type of mushroom I had before attempting any method of splitting. If yours split at the foot then i would recommend slicing with a razor blade into the foot in a small chunk. Then wait for that one to develop before moving it or slicing again.

Is it safe to cut them in your tank or should you take them out to cut them? will they release anything toxic in your tank?
