What is the best way to prep my tank to make sure I dont have any pests. My tank is very well established 300 dd with many thriving lps corals. What sps frags are more forgiving to start with. I do have 2 leathers in my tank. Will they be a problem?

Montipora ...stylo...spongo...chalices...digi...birds nest...all do great in my tank. Acros on the other hand some do great for me and some have died... So the ones listed above seem to be really hardy IMO the fast growers are deff birds nest and montipora....

bayer DIP

bayer DIP

QT and Bayer dip. This stuff really works. You would be amazed what you find at the bottom of every dip. I have frags when you are ready.

Some use revive but so far I have great results with bayer dip. Best part its cheap and can be found in HD any day.

Thanks guys.I want to buy some nice frags but dont want to harm them.
What is the best way to treat my tank for pests? Im not sure what pests may already be in the tank.
Or is it to risky to try to treat a tank this size? My tank is very well established and im concerned about killing a possible large population of organisms already in the tank.

Unless you are seeing bad stuff like red bugs or flat worms I would just leave your tank alone imo ......I'm only a year into keeping sps and the list I have above has stuck through a couple ups and downs temp swings and alk changes so I would say you would be fine trying those....hope this helps good luck

"balancing act" :). Dip your new SPS corals like BigZ says. I wouldn't treat the tank unless there is an issue and then do research as to what will and will not tolerate what your treating with.

If you are getting into SPS I second sirrealism get it anyway. But if you don't have red bugs or flatworms or any other bug don't treat. Interceptor will reduce or wipe out your pods. I don't have any bugs but I ordered some just in case.

I ordered 1 med dog size. I was only needing to treat a 40b plus sump. the large breed dog would treat 300-400g one time. Since the med size was half I felt it would treat 150-200g so I cut it into 3rds and treated. after 12 hours i did a 25% water change and will retreat in 1 week. I can say that the red bugs were gone after the 12 hours. The reason to redose is eggs might not be killed on just one treatment but then again they might.
Make sure you remove any crabs, shrimps, ECT. I missed one hermit and he was dead in 20 mins. Also my corals look much better after just 3 days. I have much better polyp extension already. I am not positive where I got them from but it doesnt really matter. It was an easy fix. I would suggest anyone keeping SPS to have some on hand. Like I said 20$ is cheap but 2 weeks of them eating your corals will drive you crazy wile you wait for it. I was thinking about doing a small group buy on it because if you get 12 month supply for large breed it comes out to like 13$ each
