IC MH ballast causing trouble w/ tv picture...

I've been having trouble w/ my tv reception lately and couldn't figure out what it was. Today, I realized that it only happened when my mh lights were on. The ballast is about 15 ft. away from my tv and I use Direct TV (sattellite). And they are in different room (theres a wall between them).

Is there anything I can do to stop this? It's really not feesable to move the tv or the tank. TIA.

Maybe a problem with the ballast and external RF interference? More likely, something is bleeding into the television directly, or into the receiver. The cables themselves are shielded and any leakage shouldnt be entering there.

I use ARO halide ballasts and used an Ice Cap 660 for years with Direct TV on 4 televisions in the house, one in the same room only 5 or 6 feet away from the ballasts and have no issues at all. I believe that the ARO ballasts are relabeled Ice Caps. No issues at all with the TV.

I know it isnt much help but something has to be off spec. Either the TV, Receiver or he Ballast itself.
If you have more than one halide ballast. See if you can isolate he problem to one of the ballasts to see if its a ballast problem.

If you have more than one receiver for DTV, try swapping in a receiver from a differen location. Finally, try bringing in a different TV from another room temporarily.

Have to systematically figure out which is the problem component, ballast, TV or receiver. Or very very possibly a signal switching box if you are using one. Also, could possibly be a bad cable or fitting on your TV/Satellite system. Most likely an analog cable if it is a cable issue. RCA audio or video cable or connector, 75 ohm coaxial cable or connector etc.

I have the same problem. DirecTV Satellite with TV's in two rooms with different receivers, one TV about 18' away other about 25'. Running three 250W IceCap Electronic MH Ballasts with 250W 14,000K DE Bulbs. I am going to contact IceCap. Like member DarG I have ran IceCap 660's for many years with no problems. Don't know what the problem is but I have never had this problem with any other MH Ballast.

I posted this in the IC forum. IC quickly responded and it turns out I had a loose connection. One of my coaxial cables was the slide on kind and it had worked loose. I unplugged it and went w/ all screw on cables and the problem disappeared.

Also, thanks DarG.

DGL, I would suggest that you also check your cables and connectors. Specifically the analog video connectors, RCA, Coaxial. A properly crimped on or compression fitting is an integral part to the 75 ohm shielding. Poor connectors, loose or corroded connectors and/or low quality coaxial cable can lead to external RF problems that show up in your reception. Check your cables and conmnectors and hand tighten the connectors at the receiver, TV, DVD, VCR etc ...
