Is there a way to get the wires out of the end caps I remember the just slid in just wondering if I just need to cut and replace end caps

If there's no release mechanism (look for a hole next to where the wires went in, you might try very gently spinning or twisting them out whole gently pulling. Wire capture mechanisms, like those on the backs of wall outlets, have a sharp edge that digs into the conductor. Yanking them out could damage the clamping mechanism.

Thanks Crit there were 2 small holes you could get a small screwdriver into and release them.
