Icefire Echinata?

just don't dip it for long..i learned that the hard way with my recent aussie. Had a 7" but had to clip what was left since it didn't like it very much. Ended up with about 3"

Thank you for the hot tip!

Any of you out there who can share a pic of your Echinata would be appreciated!

I got this as a little brown nub and six months later I think it's growing into one..still small too really tell

Nice color. What lighting/location do you keep it? Does it have PE at night?

Thanks. I have it down low under a 400 watt 20k radium. It has polyp extension during the day, but I accidentally touched it while taking the pic and they retracted.

I'm giving Aussie Echinata I got a small frag of at a swap yesterday. I've got some polyp extension so far. Does anyone know if they're easier or harder? Or is that a stupid question?

Are we talking about the ice fire echinata (green and blue) AND also the Aussie version which started coming in a few months ago? If so, here is the top part of my echinata, which I bought at MAX in Costa Mesa a few months ago... It is doing well with the blue tips and I am seeing growth. It is a very big colony though, I don't know if that makes it easier...

I just got mines a few days ago and already it is showing signs of new growth. You can see a close up of mines in the video below :)

I've had a frag of the wild Aussie Ice Fire that was pretty expensive and like everyone else said they're very sensitive. My LFS Your Reef gets them in all of the time, but I've seen about 50% of the colonies just RTN. Mine lasted a few months and one day without warning just RTN'd. I don't think I'm going to buy a wild piece again.

The Reeffarmers is a much hardier piece and I grew mine from a little 1/2" frag for about the last 7-8 months. It's finally going through its growth spirt because I moved it high under my 250 watt 14k Phoenix bulbs under high flow. It's only about 2" now, so it's not much to look at yet:) I also have two frags of the SSC and I'm having better luck with keeping the color in the Ice Fire for some reason. The SSC's lose color in my tank and I'm finally getting them to start to color back up.

Any pics or videos on it. Would love to take a look :eek1:

Awesome looking pieces everyone! They have the coolest growth pattern. Definitely a unique specimen.

Does the icefire echinata have blue tip or does it vary between blue/green as well?

Sorry!

Sorry!

Yeah guys, I should have said at what exact time the Ice Fire Echinata shows up in the video, so thanks for those who posted it :)

I am starting to lean towards this being my favorite SPS coral, next to the Tiera De Fuego, and Strawberry Shortcake. I have noticed that it is somewhat of a slow grower compared to other SPS's which might be the reason for its rarity and price range, but an awesome piece to own. Looking forward to seeing more pictures from others as well :)

Well, just setup a pretty significant trade for these Tyree Ice Fire colonies. The original colony was purchased at Baymac in 2009 by coralreefhq who never fragged it for the over 2 years he had it. He decided to go another way with his tank and broke the colony into two. It looks to be the real deal, but they definitely make my little mini colony look puney:) Had to give up some of my prized chalice colonies to get these two, but they'll be well worth it because it's by far one of my favorite pieces in my tank. What do you guys think?

They look amazing...but they look like wild aussies to me. Tyree ice fire usually has some green in the body.

Yeah, just ran by my LFS Your Reef in Roseville,CA who helped originate the Tyree Ice Fire with Rich and Karl and he told me that they look wild. Guess the key difference is the green base and the "Real" lineaged Ice Fire's don't grow straight out. They are more branchy and they twist, which my little guy looks like:) There are also no large colonies bigger than 4" that are known of. Not even Steve Tyree's colonies are that big.

Glad I haven't made the trade for my lineaged 100 eye BGM and 35 eye BJ chalice colonies. It's one of the reasons why I posted on the forums to double check and make sure because I'm not an expert and I didn't want to sell or trade frags of it without making sure. Puts my reputation on the line too:) Nice pieces, but not worth the trade now.. Appreciate the confirmation.
