Ich 3 weeks into Hypo?

Calibrate using the calibration fluid, then measure your hypo water and I am guessing you will be a bit high. You are now beginning to understand why I do not recommend hypo as a treatment process.

I have a refractometer, and i'm using RODI water (the tds meter reads 000) to calibrate since 1.000 is closer to my target than typical calibration fluid (which seems to be in the 1.026 range).
Taking some water in to my trusted LFS to have them check it has crossed my mind...

do not rely on fresh water to calibrate a refractometer . It may read .0.00 but if it is off the reading will be off at the higher end of the scale so it may read o.oo with fresh water but 1.023 when it is actually 1.019. pURCHASE A calibration solution which has a predictable value . two little fishes sells one.
Also stop stirring the sand bed the precursor to the free swimming stage is in the sand bed, and some free swimming form may also lie in the sandbed.

I definitely get the difficulty in this procedure now. sigh. 31 years into this world and i still insist on learning the hard way. Anyway, i'm this far into it now so i'll probably see it through.

The calibration fluid suggests my 1.075 reading is actually 1.0075, however. I'll use the calibration fluid, retest and raise the salinity a bit this evening.

Thanks everyone.
